Andrew Garfield Says Sony's Decisions Hurt "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"

Posted: September 11th, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Andrew Garfield Says SonySubmit Comment
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" grossed over $700 million worldwide, but became the lowest-grossing installment out of the last five "Spider-Man" movies. On top of that, critics didn't really enjoy it. The film has a 53% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

In a new interview, Andrew Garfield explained that the original script for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" was great, but Sony Pictures took a great product and ruined it with some of its decisions.

"I read the script that Alex [Kurtzman] and Bob [Orci] wrote, and I genuinely loved it. There was this thread running through it," he explained. "Once you start removing things and saying, 'No, that doesnít work,' then the thread is broken and itís hard to go with the flow of the story. Certain people at the studio had problems with certain parts of it, and ultimately the studio is the final say in those movies."

More proof you're a f*cking homo. Neither of those f*ckers have written anything worth a damn since MI3. Go watch a real movie and maybe you might know what makes a good one, and then you might have what it takes to MAKE a good one.

Just another homo up there with Shia, Pattison, Lautner, Lutz and all the rest of the Fag Pack.

Garfield sucks. The movie sucks and he made Tobey Maguire looks like Daniel Day Lewis. Period!

What is it with all the hate on Andrew? I mean.. jeez.. it's not like he's an *sshole in the press, with his fans or tries to conquer the world with a totalitarian state?

He's an actor playing a well-known superhero in a movie franchise. If he's a bad actor or not, if he sucks as Spider-Man or not is very much subjective. I for one did not LOVE TASM 2, but didn't hate it. I don't get why some people would be so pissed because he's saying it wasn't as good as he had hoped for? What's the deal?

Because both Mink and Boogiel have given us blockbuster movies that were pure genius, they are able to tell us exactly why every other movie being made sucks.

Idiots.

Even though this was a comic book movie, it was absolutely preposterous how quickly Norman Osborne transformed into The Green Goblin. Then his suit and surfboard are already conveniently waiting for him!

At least Willem Dafoe built his sh*t in the original film.

Only thing i disliked in Spidey 2 was the whole Gwen Stacy thing that got dragged out a bit -actually liked DeHaan better than Franco as Harry and besides a black Electro that reminded me too much of Jim Carrey's Nygma from Batman Forever and only 2 minutes of Rhino i was quite entertained !

The reboot was totally unnecessary, and Garfield was a very poor choice for Spider-Man.

There were perfectly fine previous films, that really didn't need a remake for at least 10 or 15 years.

Your reap what you sow.
Sony blew it big time, and Andrew Garfield needs to look in the mirror if he wants to see one of the primary reasons the films failed.

I actually liked Spidey 2 over the first film, but I almost gave up on it after the first 20 minutes, which was a total cheesefest of corny one-liners. The first 20 mins. reminded me of BATMAN AND ROBIN, and Jamie Foxx's character prior to his transformation reminded me of Carrey's in BATMAN FOREVER. It was total unoriginal crap.

But it started to get better, at least watchable, about a half hour into it. I liked Dehaan as Harry, and actually thought his story was more interesting than in Raimi's version. I thought Chris Cooper and his character's story was better. That's about it, though.

Webb does emotional, human scenes well, which I thought he did right in the first film. It's just his action sequence execution sucks gigantic balls. He's a terrible director for films of these kind....Go hangout with Tim Story, motherf*cker!

@cress

Amazing Spiderman 2 was the epitome of what you would see in the Spiderman comics that were in the 70s. Spidey's MO is to battle bad guys and make corny jokes.

Actually, Jamie's character was more like Uma's transformation to Poison Ivy, if you want to talk about nebish turning into a badass.

The problem with it was that they tried to make Jamie more like a Light Brite on steroids that emits lightning bolts, which is preferential to the yellow lightning bolt costume Electro had in the comic books, but not much of an improvement of turning Electro into an Eminemesque character with a Trayvon Martin looking persona. Bleh.

Rhino ? He's the campy character that was completely obscured in this movie. And the way they turned Green Goblin into a Lord of the Rings , Gollum character ? Horrendous. He also was rather milquetoast as a villain. Say what you want about Willem Defoe, but when he was Harry Osborne in Raimi's Spiderman, he was menacing.

Chris Cooper ? He's a damned fine character actor, but he was the only actor other than Foxx that inhabited and used their role effectively. Other actors and actresses ? Walking through the motions, waiting for the paycheck.

The amazing spider man 2 definitely the best of the franchise but that's not saying much.
Deaft0ne writes:

@OnlyGodForgivesThePrestige

When you say "entire franchise", are you including the original Raimi trilogy? If you are then you're a total idiot. The first 2 Raimi films are far superior to this reboot trash. Even Spider-Man 3 is better.

If you're NOT including the Raimi trilogy and only comparing TASM 2 to the first one, you're still an idiot because that was a better film as well. Rhys Ifans gave a good performance as Kurt Connors and brought a lot of humanity to the character and wad very believable as Peter Parker's mentor.

Once he became The Lizard he was very menacing and the CGI work was well done.

TASM 2, otoh, was very muddled and sloppy and rushed and all 3 villains gave very ham-fisted portrayals both before and after they became their villain characters.

The subtle-as-a-sledgehammer Electro/Trayvon Martin parallel was especially absurd and completely unnecessary in a comic book film.

Read above for my thoughts on Green Goblin.

Rhino's depiction was complete cinematic diarrhea and an offense to the character and just should have been left out of the film.

@deaftone

Have you seen any of the raimis lately??? Raimis first spider-man is almost unwatchable its so bad. For the time it came out it was good for being one of the first marvel movies with hardcore CGI. William Dafoe gives a great performance but the whole movie is cheesey and not good. It feels like its a movie from the early 90s when it was made in the early 2000s. Tobey Maguire is a terrible choice for spiderman. Worst actor for that roll.

Webb's spiderman is a hell of a lot better then raimis. But that's not saying much.
DriveMemento writes:

@d*cktone

ur the biggest idiot for even mentioning raimis spiderman 3. You want to talk about a bad movie. That was a total sh*tfest.

Raimis spiderman movies were not good. For the time they came out they were okay but if you watch them again they are almost unwatchable
