"Guardians of the Galaxy" Wins Worst Box Office Weekend of the Year

"Guardians of the Galaxy" Wins Worst Box Office Weekend of the YearSubmit Comment
The weekend after Labor Day is historically the slowest weekend of the year for movies, but this year was worse than usual, with revenue falling more than 20% over last year and continuing the downward trend at the domestic box office. Ticket sales ended up at around $63 million, the lowest of any weekend this year.

The only new wide release was the faith-based Elvis musical "The Identical," which has an insanely low 4% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, and stars Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd.

It cost $32 million to make and market, but failed to break into the top 10. The movie landed in 11th place with only $1.91 million. It was released in 1,956 theaters. But if it was released in 2,000 theaters, then it would have had the third-worst opening of all time for a film playing in 2,000 or more locations.

Since there weren't many new releases, most films remained in the same spot as last weekend, with Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" once again taking first place with $10.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $295 million, a 2014 record.

Well that's fascinating, but it is getting a little old reading this damned news every week. Just let us know when something else is the top movie, okay?

Isn't this the second flop for liotta this year?

Yeah Raider, Sin City 2 crashed and burned as well but his part in it was mostly a glorified cameo.

He may be a d*ck but he's a damn good actor. He even made Street Kings 2:Operation Redbox watchable.

His career has been sucking ever since he starred In uwe boll movies and 50 cent movies.marty Scorsese not picking up his calls?

Street kings is a guilty pleasure action movie.the first one

A good liotta flick is Phoenix and no escape

@bando

Street Kings 2 had a surprisingly solid story. I rented it thinking it would be barely tolerable but it was quite the opposite.

Though I agree that doing a Boll movie is beneath the bottom of the barrel and severely pathetic.
