Why Joaquin Phoenix May Pass on "Doctor Strange" Offer

Why Joaquin Phoenix May Pass on "Doctor Strange" OfferSubmit Comment
There have been numerous reports that Marvel is in active talks with Joaquin Phoenix to play the lead role in the studio's upcoming "Doctor Strange" film. Now comes word that the actor may pass on the offer.

According to BadassDigest, Phoenix is interested, but isn't convinced that he can take the role. Not only will it require lots of green screen work, but he'll have to sign a long multi-picture deal.

Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is directing "Doctor Strange," which is set to hit theaters on July 8th, 2016.

He shouldn't. Not like he's going to get a better deal as a faux rapper. Dumb ass.

"Not only will it require lots of green screen work, but he'll have to sign a long multi-picture deal."

Translation: he has time for f*cking off as a fake rapper but acting in front of a green f*cking wall for a few films is too much for him.

f*ck this guy. Find someone who has a better work ethic. Like a homeless drunk.

He doesn't look like him at all.and he doesn't wanna be a marvel whore either.so that's respectable even though he's meh

After difficulties they've had with Ed Norton and Edgar Wight, Marvel should be reluctant to work with anyone who isn't 100% reliable or willing to stick to their "vision". Just sayin'

I like Phoenix well enough as an actor. It's Scott Derrickson in the director's chair that's killed any hope I had for this movie.

He kinda looks like George Washington with a cleft

His performance was excellent in The Master and also in Reservation Road but I refused to watch him in Her just because of the stupid obvious concept but he's right by all means for not being in a Marvel flick.

Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor and the assorted weak attempts to deride him on here are lame.

He's always given an excellent performance in all of his films. I can see him as a decent Dr. Strange but I doubt he would commit to 6 films as the character.

Pro-Deaft0ne:

Yes. He is a wonderfully brilliant actor that has amazing scope and range.

Con-DeaftOne:

Who is Joaquin Phoenix ? The one that should've died in front of The Viper Room from a heroin addiction.

Adrian Brody would be perfect for the role

HER was great. I avoided it because of the concept, and the trailers looked "bleh", but wound up loving it. Spike Jonze makes good films.

I loved him in "Her". I thought his Strange would be awesome, but not if he is gonna bitch about.

Pro-Boogiel:

Yes. I agree that they should rehire Wesley Snipes to act in Blade IV: Bite Me, You Filthy Whore.

Antie-Boogiel:

Yep. Marvel should continue shoving into the collective audience faces the following:

1. Jessica Alba, the active pair of plastic tits and sagging vag - and that f*cking English fob that starred in King Arthur with Keira Knightly and Clive Owen.

2. Samuel L Jackson: Professional acting whore. He is to the acting world what polio was before Dr. Salk developed in the vaccine.

3. Wesley Snipes, who would pick up the tab at a Red Lobster.

4. Chris Evans - proof that steroids doesn't improve acting, like it doesn't improve sports.

5. That other f*cking fob who played Peter Parker after Tobey Macguire left to enter into obscurity.

6. Denis Leary - A living, Irish, Bill Hicks wannabe without the comedic timing - or any talent whatsoever.

7. Nic Cage

8. Ben Affleck

9. Mickey Rourke

10. Ben Kingsley

@Max

Well Joaquin was never a drug addict like his brother, and I certainly do not wish death on him.

Again, I can't really see Joaquin making this type of commitment to Marvel/a very commercial/corporate and conglomerate and commerce-driven franchise.

He most likely sees it as selling out in one way or another.

they should cast someone else.

JP is known to be a problematic actor and a f*ck up,if they want someone for the long run they better hire someone more stable.

@Crambo

Yep. And less looking like God took a big sh*t on Phoenix's face when he was stillborn.

Joaquin Phoenix: At least blind, Amish, mute girls with web toes and stumps on their arms think he's super hot - and Paris Hilton.
