"Guardians of the Galaxy" Remains First at Box Office, New Releases Underperform

"Guardians of the Galaxy" Remains First at Box Office, New Releases UnderperformSubmit Comment
Despite two new releases, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" remained at the top spot this Labor Day weekend. While the official numbers have yet to be revealed, all the movies released during the summer of 2014 will barely crack $4 billion, making it the lowest result in eight years.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" earned an additional $16 million, bringing its worldwide total to $547 million. Domestically, it's currently the highest grossing movie of 2014.

The first new wide release, the horror film "As Above, So Below," landed in fourth place with $8.3 million. Since it cost only $5 million to make, it's already considered successful. The film has a 33% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

The other wide release was Pierce Brosnan's action film "The November Man," which opened in sixth place with only $7.6 million. The movie cost over $20 million to make, which means it will need international box office to break even. It has a 36% fresh rating.

Meanwhile, Sony celebrated the 30th anniversary of "Ghostbusters" by re-releasing the original film in 784 theaters. It ended up earning a decent $1.65 million.

On the specialty side, a prequel to Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown," called "Life of Crime," was released in 33 theaters, earning $99,5000. That's about $3,000 per theater. Far from an impressive opening. The movie stars Jennifer Aniston and Tim Robbins. It has a 62% fresh rating.

Saw the Sin City sequel and The Giver this weekend. Both were a let down but Sin City was the worst. It's like RR slapped a bunch of actors together and filmed them running around in a mostly black and white with a script that had not one ounce of logic. And what is with the f*cking voice over? It show up for 80% of the movie. If you story is that f*cked up that you need to spend most of the time explaining it to the audience, then you need to go back and fix the script before filming any scene. After the money I wasted, I hope this ends his career.

thats the most Ive seen you say at one time,HJ^

thanks for cementing my decision to save Sin City2 for home viewing

@Porn-fly: Eva Green is topless in most of the scenes that she is in, so that is something for you to look forward to. Just keep in mind that you first have to see Ray Liotta's bare ass. It shows up early in the movie so you can get past that and watch the rest of the film but I advise you to have a few drinks first.

And would it haves killed RR to ask Clive Owen to make a cameo? That make you put on Josh Brolin to try to make him resemble Clive was completely awful. Didn't look a bit like Clive at all.
