Ricky Gervais Turning "The Office" TV Series Into a Feature Film

Ricky Gervais Turning "The Office" TV Series Into a Feature FilmSubmit Comment
Ricky Gervais (Muppets Most Wanted, Invention of Lying) has been in lots of movies, but is best known for playing David Brent in the original, UK version of "The Office."

Gervais is now reprising the role for "Life on the Road," a film that will catch up with Brent over a decade after "The Office" ended in December 2003. BBC is funding the movie, but it's not clear if a theatrical or TV release is planned.

"We find out what Brent is doing now and what's happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg," BBC Films said in a press release. "He's a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really give up on his dream of being a rock star."

Pffft. Mike Judge already beat you to the seminal, quintessential cubicle comedy, Gerbels, and you're fifteen minutes of fame is up already, fool.

American version is better (before Steve carrel left), despite what some pretentious britatds will tell you. And I mean britard as in someone who thinks all British tv is better than American. British people arn't that stupid, they've seen Breaking Bad. They know we win.

Can't beat the original Office but he needs to let the character go. Extras and Derek were trying to hard to use the same formula but never reached the same levels of hilarity. The best thing Gervais has done since is introducing the world to the unintentional comedic genius of Karl Pilkinton.

Why doesn't he try writing a completely new film, preferably set it in England and see if he can get back to his brilliant best.

I loved the American office but it was a different type of comedy. The English office is proper awkward English comedy which I personally prefer. But some of my favourite comedies are from the US: Arrested Development, Parks & Rec etc.

In terms of non comedic shows America definitely has the edge with budget allowing them to do bigger concepts and TV that films more like a film. English dramas are more low key.

But again some of my favourite shows are made in America: The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Fargo, Game of Thrones.

Oh yeah and BREAKING BAD IS OVERRATED! Enjoyable but definitely not as good as people think it is.
