Third "Spider-Man" Spin-Off Announced, "Venom" Gets New Title

Third "Spider-Man" Spin-Off Announced, "Venom" Gets New TitleSubmit Comment
It seems that Sony Pictures is working hard to successfully expand the Spider-Man universe. According to Deadline, in addition to the "Sinister Six" and "Venom" spin-offs, the studio is also working on a third film that will focus on a female superhero.

At this point, it's not clear which character Sony has in mind, but there are plenty to choose from, including Black Cat (played by Felicity Jones in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"), Silver Sable and Spider-Woman. The new movie is targeted for a 2017 release.

Meanwhile, Deadline is also reporting that the "Venom" spin-off will be called "Venom Carnage," which obviously means that Carnage will be part of the film, which is also set for 2017.

@mink
Never have I see sarcasm epitomized in one word like you just did. LOL I thought for sure they were going to rename it "The Amazing Venom".

Venom Carnage, huh? So who's the hero? Gotta have a hero, or at least a likeable protagonist, an avatar for the audience. Who is it?

Jeez. They put Spiderman on hold because it's anything but a hot property, just to make some sh*tty spin-off movies to kick up interest in Spiderman again in 2018, four years from now.

It's like trying to cold crank an old lawnmower with your d*ck.

Go f*ck yourself, Sony. Marvel's got this.

@Sleuth: usually I'm anything but pithy or laconic, but Spiderman news has a way of constipating my brain.

You and me both pal. For a film series that just had it's lowest box office ever they sure are eager to pump out those spin-offs.

@Sleuth: Venom will be box-office poison; FACT!

It seems that Sony gonna do a female superhero movie before Marvel Studios and WB. That's a good strategy there I give you that. However, knowing Sony's nature to f*ck themselves and self implode, that strategy will be badly executed.

Ithought Marvel owned Spider-Woman...

I think Sony own the rights to Spider-woman and all Marvel characters with the Spider- prefix.

^ Well done for saying Batman Begins and not Dark Knight. It's not a popular opinion but I completely agree, it was the only decent one out of the trilogy.

At the rate these movies are being produced you're gonna have 80% of all films in the cinema as superhero films which could actually mean that audiences get bored of them quicker but I doubt it considering the average IQ of most moviegoers now days.

Ironically, it's common belief although not accepted fact that Burton's first Batman film was the beginning of the modern summer tent pole regime, which has given rise now to endless comic book movies.

I say ironically because if you accept the premise that DC started the trend, Marvel now dominates it, which is comparable to building a mansion just so your enemy can live within its walls.

Another of DC's many failures.

^ Yep agree with all of those point except Ledger, not that he wasn't overrated, I just thought it was funny that he was the one I was rooting for by the end. I had no emotional attachment to the protagonist at all. Ledger's performance was the only "fun" part of the film

Plus- Dark Knight is just a Heat remake which doesn't do it any favours just makes it look worse.

@Rambo: Yeah, for someone apparently so clever, Nolan does leave a lot of logic out of a lot of his films, especially when he turned down bad guys saying they weren't real enough.

The whole final third of TDK is a cluster f*ck, the introduction of Two Face ruined it for me and it could do with some serious editing.

@Mink: I watched the making of Burton's Batman recently as well and it seemed like it was the start of the whole "franchise the f*ck out of movies" that we're all too familiar with now days. It seemed like that yellow bat symbol was everywhere and it worked!
