Robert Downey Jr Discusses Returning for "Iron Man 4"

Robert Downey Jr Discusses Returning for "Iron Man 4"Submit Comment
After "Iron Man 3" grossed over $1 billion at the box office, Marvel wanted a new contract with Robert Downey Jr. Unfortunately, the studio was only able to secure the actor of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Avengers 3."

Marvel would love to make "Iron Man 4," but we have yet to hear anything about it, mostly because Downey either doesn't want to return or is asking for so much money that the fourth installment would be too much of a gamble for the studio.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Downey confirmed that he's interested in "Iron Man 4," stating: "It's down to Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree."

When asked if he would be willing to give up the role for another actor to step in. Downey said: "Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?"

Downey isnít being greedy. Heís holding out for his proven market value. Good for him. The principles of business and oneís worth donít somehow change just because the figures are extremely high.

lol. hes not greedy, hes just...what did u say? holding out for his proven market value. Americans. they call vice virtue and everything else vice. in god they trust. and u know rdj is going to blow most of his "proven market value" on coke. f*cking americans.
Cannon writes:

^^ = empty rhetorical bullsh*t.

Yeah, because asking to be paid what you're worth is a "vice". And if he blows on coke then he blows it on coke. One thing's got nothing to do with the other.

I suspect he's just bored with the character. He's played it like 4 times now and has another two waiting to come out. Not many actors play the same character 6+ times.

"greed is greed u ignorant f*ck. callin it something else doesnt make it something else."

Calling anything something else doesn't make it something else, which includes accusations of greed. I'm more interested in definitions and principles. Clearly, you're not.

But keep shouting and waving your arms about ...I'm sure you convince someone eventually.

greed is in the dictionary illiterate f*ck, proven market value is a wall street term used by elite american sc*m to justify their greed. learn to read and learn to understand history, americ*nt

"greed is in the dictionary illiterate f*ck"

Who said it wasn't?

"proven market value is a wall street term"

Market value is an economic term, period. In any event, you haven't actually defined or explained how Downey is being greedy; because he's merely asking to be paid what he's worth? Odd.
nowtheresabatman writes:
on July 23rd, 2014 at 10:09:56 AM

^Well, actually it's a phrase, not a term, but as a non-American, I think it's ridiculous someone like RDJ can make what he makes while people are starving and homeless, just because he got off the bottle and plays a comic book character. Kind of insane. But that's the US where people justify their greed with whatever excuse they can, including saying God gave it to them. They even murder each other all the time over money. All the time actually. And they they bomb and invade other nations when that bores them. Yeah, under god is so hypocritical for a country as often evil as the US. Glad I don't live there.
nowtheresabatman writes:
on July 23rd, 2014 at 10:13:34 AM

That was at the guy above.

But Downey's holding out for more money and using his position as Iron Man, the only person to play the role, to hold out for more money so he can guy six more cars, three more yachts and eight more houses. That by any definition is greed. Have to agree with that guy with the long name. Oh, and economics are written by capitalists, and capitalists justify greed with science the same way marxists justify socialism. Just because its a term in a book doesn't mean its right or even correct, but using a book to justify your position is a logical fallacy called appeal to authority.
Cannon writes:
on July 23rd, 2014 at 11:51:41 AM

The best part of that whole two-post nonsense is that you ended it with an accusation of a logical fallacy. Priceless.

The reason RDJ is making what he makes is because the films in question are making what they make, because audiences the world over are freely paying to see them in theaters. This isnít some fictional set of excuses written in a book by capitalists; itís called reality -- cause and effect -- as acknowledged by anyone with a brain.

"But that's the US where people justify their greed with whatever excuse they can, including saying God gave it to them. They even murder each other all the time over money. All the time actually. And they they bomb and invade other nations when that bores them. Yeah, under god is so hypocritical for a country as often evil as the US."

Iím sorry ...when exactly was RDJ preaching anything about God or murdering people for money...or bombing and invading other countries? Thank you for that total non sequitur.

"But Downey's holding out for more money and using his position as Iron Man, the only person to play the role, to hold out for more money so he can guy six more cars, three more yachts and eight more houses."

And you know this, how? "Greed" is one of those reactionary words thrown around by the sanctimoniousóitís entirely subjective and descriptive, nothing more. Letís stick to facts: RDJ is asking to be paid what at heís worth, at least so much as he (and his agent) has determined. The studio is making X-amount of money off these Iron Man films which he is matching proportionately with an X-amount salary demand, based off his net worth contribution. Not sure why everyone is having such difficulty in understanding this rather basic principle.

"Oh, but the homeless!"

What the hell do the homeless have to do with it? Is RDJ lying or cheating or stealing? Is he using force or coercion? Is he exploiting you or anyone else?

Greed, also known as avarice, cupidity or covetousness, is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self, far beyond the dictates of basic survival and comfort.

"Greed, also known as avarice, cupidity or covetousness, is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self, far beyond the dictates of basic survival and comfort."

= "Others shouldnít be allowed to get rich because Iím holier-than-thou."

And since you donít need to survive, or even live comfortably by my estimate -- relative to a third-world country rice farmer -- the very computer youíre using to rant all this bullsh*t then I suppose youíre being greedy as well.

Asking for what youíre worth in whatever the market or business does not make you greedy.
Nonetheless, letís play it your way for the moment: since RDJ is already at the top of the Forbes list, he doesnít need any more money, period, to survive or live comfortably.

Hence, asking for $20 million less or even $40 million less is still asking for money he doesnít "need". He shouldnít even receive a minimum wage paycheck for Iron Man 4 because, again, he doesnít really "need" it. In fact, he shouldnít be asking for money from any job he might take in the future. He, along with everyone else of excess wealth, should just work for free.

Forget the reality of relativityóthe fact that RDJ is in the game of big, Hollywood blockbuster show business where the kind of salary figures being thrown around exist precisely due to the investments of the studios vis-ŗ-vis the profits reaped at the box office.

Forget economic, philosophical, universal principles of things like proven value and fair pay. Thatís all just devil talk. Wall Street is corrupt and kids are starving in Africa. Thatís what matters.

i use my computer as part of my job. i don't even own a television or a radio, things many people have in africa. but hey, lets forget income disparity, lets forget people are starving, suffering, dying, going without basic necessities, because its more important that people like rdj have to have a tenth mansion, more coke, more hookers, and you know what, hes worth it because he stars in sh*tty comic book movies americ*nts like you pay to see. hes earned it because thats how it is is, and the status quo is always right
I FUCKING HATE YOU, ALEX! writes:
on July 23rd, 2014 at 8:52:51 PM

funny thing is, the f*cker got what, seventy million dollars, enough to buy seventy people five mansions in most states, but he wants so much for the sequel, because he received so much for the third film, that disney doesnt want to pay the loser that much money even though hes worth a lot to them. if that isnt greed i dont know what is. maybe greed doesnt exist. in america, greed is the way of life. wonder whatll happen to all the greedy people there when the partys over. seems its slowly coming to an end already. hahahahahahaha
I FUCKING HATE YOU, ALEX! writes:
on July 23rd, 2014 at 8:57:25 PM

i guess when you institutionalize greed, its no longer greed, like in muslim countries where rape is the norm. they dont really have a society where rape is seen as an absolute evil, its just part of the way things are done. like back in the fourteenth century when little girls were married off before puberty. or slavery which was seen as the justifiable status quo, the way things are done hence theyre right. once day people will look back in disgust on the days when some loser like rdj could hold up a movie for a fortune he doesnt need while millions around him work hard for little to nothing. theyll look back on those days like you look back on slavery and theyll wonder why it was allowed just because it was business as usual. but you keep apologizing for it

"I use my computer as part of my job."

And your job is to surf WP? All day?

"but hey, lets forget income disparity, lets forget people are starving, suffering, dying, going without basic necessities"

Uh-huh. And letís also forget why, instead opting for some arbitrary correlation with RDJ.

"because itís more important that people like rdj..."

Who said anything about RDJís salary being more important than such things?

"and you know what, hes worth it because he stars in sh*tty comic book movies americ*nts like you pay to see."

Well, us "Americ*nts" ...and twice as much in box office receipts from countless other countries around the world.

"hes earned it because thats how it is is,"

Thatís how it works. Itís called math.

"and the status quo is always right"

If the status quo in question -- movie star salaries -- are wrong, immoral, now might be a good time to prove it ...rationally, objectively and empirically. Ya know, something like: RDJ's actions are impeding upon the rights of others.
