Guillermo Del Toro Wants to Direct New "Frankenstein" Film

Guillermo Del Toro Wants to Direct New "Frankenstein" FilmSubmit Comment
It was just revealed that Universal Pictures is planning to take Marvel's superhero strategy and use it for its classic movie monsters, like Frankenstein, the Werewolf, the Mummy, Dracula and many others.

Now comes word that Universal's Donna Langley has already approached Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) about directing the "Frankenstein" reboot. "It's the dream project so I'm a chicken sh*t," he said. "If I do 'Frankenstein,' I literally would stop everything, and Iím going to a sabbatical of three years just to write that. It's not something that's gonna just flow, like second nature. It's my favorite book in history."

Del Toro continued: "I would love to [make the movie]. Hopefully one day it coincides that Donna wants to do it and I am not a chicken sh*t."

Outside of Frankenstein, Del Toro is also interested in a movie about the Creature From the Black Lagoon. "I think that it's a great universe to develop. I personally think that they should all be period movies," he explained. "I would love to see Creature from the Black Lagoon in Victorian England with the Victorian exploration, with a balloon and steam riverboats."

The only Frankenstein movie that's been worth a sh*t and successful in the last 40 years starred Gene Wilder.

DeNiro as big Frank? f*cking horrible.

Eh..another addition to the list of hundreds of things del Toro wants to do but is never going too happen.

Hey fat boy, go do that Lovecraft movie you've been talking about forever or GTFO

@pap. lol

@jafin. Agreed. AT THE MOUTH OF MADNESS was all he was talking about 2 years ago, now we hear nothing about it out of his piehole.

Yeah, I donít get whatís going on with del Toro lately. Heís sorta gone the way of James Cameron in that he just wonít let go of this attempted Pacific Rim (read: Avatar, over Battle Angle) franchise to do other more horror puritan projects heís long since been passionate about, Lovecraft and Frankenstein being the two most obvious choices.

@Cannon
BEcause Hollywood has completely given up on producing anything that isn't a safe bet. Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" was a thousand times less than his other films, but Del Toro knows. Originality has ended and doing anything passionate is bad now. No Lovecraft, he's given up on Hellboy, replaced by a big budget robot "Transformers", Frankenstein, and Justice League Dark. I'm pretty sure "Crimson Peak" will be his last attempt at original filmmaking. Hope it's good!

It's gonna suck if he makes it. Still, it'd probably be better than other adaptations.

Let's wait to see what Mink says. Whatever it is, it's gonna be better than our sh*tty ideas.

del Toro....he's like that kid you heaps his plate ridiculously high at the all you can eat buffet only to get full after the first two bites.

Dumb ass.
