Mark Wahlberg to Star in "The Six Million Dollar Man" Sci-Fi Film?

Mark Wahlberg to Star in "The Six Million Dollar Man" Sci-Fi Film?Submit Comment
Over the years, there have been many attempts at turning the 1970s sci-fi TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" into a film. At one point, Jim Carrey was attached to star in a comedic version for director Todd Phillips (The Hangover). Then in 2011, it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio will play the lead with Bryan Singer (X-Men) directing.

Nothing worked out and the film never left the development phase. But now comes word that Universal Pictures is once again working on the project and has attached the "Lone Survivor" team of Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg.

"The Six Million Dollar Man" revolves around an astronaut whose body is rebuilt with cybernetic technology after a traumatic injury from an aircraft crash.

There is only one Six Million Dollar Man, and Lee Majors was him. They better not f*ck this up.

No f*cking way is marky mark believable as an astronaut. Maybe an idiot chip n dales fancer who starts his set dressed as one....and by that I mean just an oversized space man bubble helmet circa 1952

Been on a DVD spree this holiday weekend. Saw Lone Survivor and loved it. Great action and decent (if not pretty easy) role for Mark. I'll see him a SMDM movie, not because he's a proven action star now but also because I've recently been inspired to think Hwood is getting more creative and better at making reboots.

I really enjoyed the new Robocop reboot. It's not as good as the original because of its lack of gore but succeeds on an entirely different level than the original even touches. It focuses more on the ethics of placing a man into a machine and more importantly it focuses on the use of such technology to police society. The film considers very realistic questions that have to be asked as tech advances to a point where privacy and basic human rights become almost irrelevant or are traded away for "safety". The film also separates itself from first on an emotional level by (kind of) making Robocop more man than machine initially. He has fears and anger like a real person from the minute he wakes up, which leads to a major question of the film of how much of his humanity his "creators" should allow him to keep. The ethics behind such decisions drives the film to a whole different place than the original ever attempted. In general it's still a decent movie but it's a lot more than just that.

If more reboots would take such a different approach to the source material as this director did with Robocop or at least put forth the same effort. I would be more willing to give them a chance at BO. Maybe SMDM will do the same.

Fassbender would be great for this role.

We can rebuild the funky bunch. We have the technology. Now, Feel the Vibration!

This commercial is probably better than anything Hollywood can produce today.
