Mark Ruffalo Says New "Hulk" Film Will NOT Be "Planet Hulk"

Mark Ruffalo Says New "Hulk" Film Will NOT Be "Planet Hulk"Submit Comment
A while back there was a rumor that Marvel will give Mark Ruffalo his own "Hulk" film, which will be based on the "Planet Hulk" storyline. Marvel immediately denied the rumor, stating that if the studio was to make a new "Hulk" movie, it wouldn't make one which almost fully focuses on Hulk and not Bruce Banner (Ruffalo).

Then just recently, Ruffalo confirmed that Marvel is once again considering a solo "Hulk" film, which immediately brought back rumors of "Planet Hulk." So in a new interview with MTV, Ruffalo responded to the rumor.

"I don't think that's where they're going to go," he said. "'Planet Hulk' is... they actually launch Bruce Banner into space to try and get rid of him and the Hulk. And he ends up freaking out, smashing up the spaceship, and it goes off course and it ends up on this planet of gladiator creatures, like pre-Christian, Romanesque."

Ruffalo continued: "I don't think that's the way to go yet. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators. He falls in love, he has a baby, he finds a woman, and then The Avengers nuke the planet."

"You need more banner"....

Cause you need more work f*cker. Id watch Planet Hulk. Plenty of people would. I like Ruffalo, dont get me wrong, but lets be honest, he wants a movie where there is more banner because he IS banner.

Word on the street is he does get launched into space at the end of Age Of Ultron and ends up in the GOTG sequel and comes back with them for Avengers 3.

I personally think they should try and do Planet Hulk. They could tweak the story to have Banner more present to appease Ruffalo and I think it still would work. They could have flashback sequences that could be used as well to fill story gaps. Then the beginning of Avengers 3 could be the World War Hulk storyline where he comes back pissed and then when all calms down it can go into the Thanos attacks storyline. The benefit of having a movie where Hulk is on another planet is that you get to see him against huge monsters and powerful aliens instead of General Ross and his tanks (over simplification on my part but you catch my drift). Planet Hulk is the way to go IMO.

They will prolly have it where Bruce is in the lab for shield or stark industries and hulk just pops up when villains appear. Prolly Maria hill will have a bigger role. Give it a feel similar to the winter soldier. And later down the road after say phase 5 or 6. Then give us planet hulk.
Knut writes:

@Dirt

I read similar a few days ago.

Somewhere towards the end of Age of Ultron, Hulk is trapped on a ship headed into deep space. Not sure if it was a way to defeat Ultron or banish Hulk. He ends up in the realm of GotG and they wind up headed back to Earth at the end of GotG2. Cue Thanos/ GotG/ Avengers crossover in final Avengers film.

I'm not quite sure how a GotG/ Hulk smash-up would work. It could be done well but I need to see GotG first.
