Warner Bros' Full DC Superhero Plan Revealed?

Posted: June 13th, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Warner BrosSubmit Comment
Warner Bros has been promising for many years to reveal its plan for its DC movies. As time went by, we got an entire "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "Green Lantern," and "Man of Steel." And while "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" are coming, it's still not clear what the full plan is.

Now there's a rumor going around, suggesting that the studio will reveal everything at Comic-Con International next month. And what they will reveal is that after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters on May 6th, 2016, we'll get a "Shazam!" solo film in July of 2016, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "Sandman" film in December of 2016," "Justice League" in May of 2017, a "Wonder Woman" film in July of 2017, a Flash and Green Lantern team-up movie on Christmas of 2017 and a direct "Man of Steel" sequel in May of 2018.

The rumor goes on to say that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will include not only Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg, but also Flash and Green Lantern, who will not be played by Ryan Reynolds. And on top of all that, Aquaman will be introduced in "Justice League."

this sounds like a rush job train wreak.

WB is gonna do 3 movies a year without a single hit movie under their belt, (im excluding tdk trilogy). Justice League 1 year after BVS? I smell desperation.

@Tanman
"Shazam" is the word that Billy Baston says to turn into Captain Marvel aka Shazam (his other name). Captain Marvel, ironically, was a character created by Fawcett Comics, who ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics, alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman. In 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters and returned them to publication, acquiring all rights to the characters by 1991. DC has since integrated Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family into their DC Universe, and have attempted to revive the property several times with mixed success.
DC ironically cannot call him Captain Marvel because Marvel Comics trademarked their Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) comic book during the interim between the original Captain Marvel's Fawcett years and DC years, DC has used the trademark Shazam! to promote the property since 1972, instead of the name "Captain Marvel".

They might as well call him Captain Lawsuit

This sounds like a mishmash and DC's attempt in speeding up to catch up with Marvel. It's going to f*cking be terrible, because Marvel has methodically (*and brilliantly) laid out a plan, movie by movie, of introducing parts of their universe along the way. That's why The Avengers did as well as it did (besides allowing Josh Whedon the latitude and budget to make it work). This sounds like they are sticking characters in because they can.

I don't necessarily agree that just changing Green Lantern (for example) to another actor is going to solve the problem. The problem with Green Lantern was the f*cking story from square one. And you can still the entire Justice League of America and also the Justice Society of America into "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice", which (by the way) is a bloody awful title and "World's Finest" would have been more better suited, and it won't change the fact that you (a) have to build a great story or you wind up with a DC version of WWE Raw or SpiderMan III, (b) have Zack Snyder NOT be Zack Snyder, which he even did with "Man of Steel", which took the Superman mythos and screwed it up and (c) not only keep characters by themselves at first, but make origin stories fully fleshed out and theater-ready, rather than rushed and clunky (ex: Wolverine: Origins as a way NOT to do it).

It's obvious that DC sees how much of a cash cow movies have been for Marvel. But they don't have the capability to learn from what has worked and NOT worked from Marvel.

Tone is the major issue here, even above story, in my opinion.

There was nothing remotely brilliant about the storyline for The Avengers, or any of the build-up films prior, or even the ones that have since followed (Winter Soldier being the most sophisticated thus far) but Marvel has nonetheless struck the right tone that is mostly colorful and lighthearted. Their films are easy to lull into for simple fun and dispose of if/when they're not anything great.

That sh*t they pulled with Man of Steel ...yeah, that's NOT gonna work for a multi-film, 5-year franchise endeavor. Consistently gloomy and gray and over-serious and self-absorbed is going to wear real thin with audiences, unless they just happen to managed an incredibly, engagingly deep and dramatic extended storyline, which they likely won't.

I'm not saying they have to get all cutesy and semi-self-aware like the Avengers franchise (Justice League was always more old fashioned, business-like earnest, anyway) but they'd better find a more accessible balance of dutiful heroism and unique character personalities then what they've displayed with their first outing.

It'll never f*cking happen. DC can't even get one film out the door every three years, and when they do it's some Zack Snyder sh*t.

Good luck with that.
BlackDynamite writes:

3 movies in one year? DC really is playing catch up.

Also, a Shazam movie before Wonder Woman? ehh.

Still think there should be another solo Green Lantern film, maybe have each movie focused on a different Lantern (Elba for John Stewart). But i can't see the point in adding Flash to this movie unless they are going to connect the film and TV universes and have the guy playing Barry in the TV show reprise his role in this movie.
