"Fantastic Four" Director Josh Trank Hired for "Star Wars" Spin-Off

"Fantastic Four" Director Josh Trank Hired for "Star Wars" Spin-OffSubmit Comment
After "Godzilla" became a big hit, Disney hired director Gareth Edwards to helm one of their "Star Wars" spin-offs, which is set to hit theaters on December 16th, 2016.

Now comes word that Josh Trank, who directed "Chronicle" and is currently working on the "Fantastic Four" reboot, has just been hired to direct the second "Star Wars" spin-off. "The magic of the 'Star Wars' universe defined my entire childhood," said Trank. "The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."

It's already been confirmed that the first two spin-offs would focus on Boba Fett and Han Solo. It's not clear what the other spin-off would be and which ones Edwards and Trank will direct. Stay tuned.

On the one hand, I envy Trank for his successful entry into the business, but on the other hand I don't because if I were to be given the ability to make a film, it wouldn't choose big-budget commercial comic book and Star Wars flicks.

A lot more fun to make your own stuff.

But that's the business.

^^My sentiments with most directors in Hollywood recently. Sure, its awesome that you're being given a $200 million budget, but at the same time there's no creative integrity or expression involved. They're simply another 'director' in an assembly line. No passion. Plus easier for the studios to boss around compared to the inside disputes with established folk (Edgar Wright, Sam Raimi, etc).

Let me guess, Michael B Jordan will portray Young Han Solo.

What Avirex said too.

Great. You're going to make the next mega-budget movie, but you have almost zero control over your project, which isn't really yours, it's the studios, and they're micro-managing you into a cardiac infarction.

So I can see how this works. During the Renaissance, if you wanted to fund your next big beautiful sculpture, you had to do a Sistine Chapel. You didn't want to spend all day and all night for the next several months laying on your back painting sh*t on a ceiling, but you had little choice because marble and travertine don't grow on trees. So you needed the patronage.

Today, same for movies. You want to make a movie, you need the money. You do Transformers 3 you can get funds for Pain and Gain (really, Bay can't fund his own f*cking films? What the f*ck is Platinum Dunes for?). That's how it works. You make the Dark Knight Farts and WB funds Interstellar. Quid pro quo.

My question, then: will Trank do his own thing once he gets done whoring for Marvel/Disney? Or he another bought and paid greedy corporate drone-clone willing with no drive or desire but to mass-produce whaever plasticine trash that comes out of Disney's shareholder boardroom?

If it were me, it would one-off, one-on. I'd make some commercial flick only if I were promised both final cut or funding for my next two low-budget flicks.

Then again, I'd probably do what the f*ck they tell me to do because the money is good...

Lots of errors in that one. Talk about quality control. Irony.

yeah. your speculation doesn't mean "confirmation" (Han and Boba).

"Fantastic Four" Director Josh Trank Hired for "Star Wars" Spin-Off

Leave it to Disney to turn a property off to someone who has the ability NOT to define losing his virginity as the defining point of his adolescent years, but rather Star Wars.

Expect more The Amazing Spider-Man and less Spider-Man.
