Two More Directors in Talks for Marvel's "Ant-Man"

Two More Directors in Talks for MarvelSubmit Comment
After director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) dropped out, Marvel quickly started the search for his replacement. After learning that three directors were being considered, Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step-Brothers) ended up being offered the job.

McKay quickly turned down the job. Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball, We’re The Millers) was the next one to get the offer, but he too declined. The only remaining helmer on the list was Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), but the director just had a baby and may not be willing to spend several months away from his family.

With so many directors passing on the job, Marvel had no other choice but to expand its search. Deadline is reporting that Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors) and Michael Dowse (Goon) have been approached and are now in talks.

This sh*t gets any worse, Disney will soon have to reach out to porno directors.

I hear Russ Meyer and Tinto Brass are free.

Marvel (excuse me, I mean Disney) loves hiring mediocre submissive directors for their superhero projects to continue the corporate bland style of these 'films'.

Is there any chance Marvel might reconsider and bring back Edgar Wright?

I think the treatment he gave the film would only work in his hands. It will become too convoluted under Marvel's strict formulae and a slave director following orders.

^^Uh, from what I've read, the Wright Ant-Man script now looks little like what he originally wrote, so I would say...no. I'd say Wright left because Disney/Marvel both butchered his script and started bullying his other creative input.

Fair point. There was always a risk he might make it too comedic to integrate into the expanded universe.

Maybe the studio isn't too confident on how GotG will be received.

Everyone keeps declining Because they know damn well that nobody wants to watch an Ant-Man Movie

@Knut
I really don't think they're worried about it being "too comedic". The list of possible replacements is made up of the directors of some of the most ridiculous recent comedies. If anything, Wright might have been to serious for the job, not comedic- at least in comparison to these other awful choices.

I didn't know that Marvel was so good in soap opera!

You don't expect this kind of twist day after day. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode.

They really are scraping the bottom of the barrel ... what ... was Brett Ratner too busy scratching his ass and eating Ding Dongs ?
