"Zombieland" Director in Talks for "Ghostbusters 3"

"Zombieland" Director in Talks for "Ghostbusters 3"Submit Comment
Despite directing the first two installments, Ivan Reitman recently revealed that he will not direct "Ghostbusters 3," which he says has a script that Sony likes.

Now comes word that the studio is reaching out to "Zombieland" helmer Ruben Fleischer to take on the third film. The problem is that Fleischer is also in talks with Marvel to direct "Ant-Man."

What makes the helmer an unlikely contender for "Ant-Man" is the fact that he just had a child and may not be willing to leave his family. But "Ghostbusters 3" is not ready to film yet and it's being developed by the same studio that worked on Fleischer's "Zombieland" and "30 Minutes or Less."

The Ghostbusters plot could've gone in so many different and cool ways, it's a shame its been in development hell.

The problem of the ever changing screen play and fast tracking it into filming is in the possible problem that it tries too hard to connect it to the original that it limits itself, IMO. And no, we don't need reboots/ remakes or whatever they're called nowadays.

Some plot points off my top of my head:

--Have one of the original note a need for the need for Ghostbusters, but the old ones are retired/gone just leaving a bunch of knock-offs/imitators (it does happen in NYC) that a new batch needs to be grouped and have it be hilarious. Maybe the son/daughter and the original help track down great minds (also eccentric/crazy) that get to join..Cue NYC regular cameos.

--Have a wannabe, ragtag of misfits idolizing the originals...borderline stalkers. That have good ideas, but also screw up the plan due to their inexperience. A major increase in paranormal activity makes them jump into action. Maybe have the remaining originals save the newbies as cameos.

--Have the remaining group be disgusted how the whole ghostbusting has just been a entertainment/reality show spectacle (show clips of mediums, Ghost Hunters TV show clips) and they need to get back-to-basics, but note they're too old to continue so they basically recruit new blood that bring their own technical advancements to improve on theirs.

Have the first half as origins and second half of a group of cultist bringing back a long lost demon, ghost etc...something that tests the new one's skills.

Or make the ones that don't want to help or gone like Ramis, make them as ghosts that help the new ones (a la The Frighteners). That's been brought up before...

When they're done, they start mopping/sweeping the newly wrecked headquarters when it cuts to black...all you hear is the alarm bell, hear the new Ecto-1 engine turn over and we hear an updated version of the Ghostbuster theme... The End.

Or if you want to trigger the sequel, have the team drive home when they see a big, menacing ghost/ demon that makes them stop, they see each other, and smile...they stop, get out, turn on the packs and shoot at the camera before it cuts to black. That'd be cool too...

These half-assed ideas from a fan (yes, even part II). How hard is that?

REBOOT THIS MOTHERf*ckER NOW!!!

GodDAMNit, what the f*ck is the matter with this project? Is it that fat, old Hackroyd f*ck? Is he so pathetically obsessed with rebuilding his long-dead and never-existing career he has to demand that they include him and what's left of the old crew? It's OVER. Murray isn't going to join you and Ramis is DEAD. That leaves two people. Dan and Ernie. No one gives a f*ck about either of them. Let it f*cking go!

Hand this off to a young del Toro. Make it cute and clever and creepy and dark. Make it like a motion picture interpretation of this

Look at that atmosphere, that ethereal ambiance, that romantic, magical aura.

That's how they should make a new Ghostbusters: similar to 'It', but with witty verbal and visual humor instead of King's nihilistic and gratuitous sex and gore.

Instead they'll reboot it into some bullsh*t high-school "comedic" vehicle for Taters, Selena Gomez, Michael B. Jordan and Jonah Hill.
