Four Directors in Talks for Marvel's "Ant-Man"

Posted: May 31st, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Four Directors in Talks for MarvelSubmit Comment
It was recently reported that despite working on "Ant-Man" for years, director Edgar Wright decided to drop out. But Marvel isn't just sitting around. The studio has already meeting with his potential replacements.

The list of directors being considered are Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Other Guys), Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball, We're the Millers), Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50).

As you can see, everyone comes from a comedy background. McKay and Thurber are incredibly busy these days, and sources claim that Levine has yet to take a single meeting. That means that Fleischer is the likely choice, unless the other helmers can shift their schedules around.

"Ant-Man" is set to hit theaters on July 17th, 2015.

Let me guess, none of them will be chosen to direct. In the end marvel will choose someone else, other than those four names. Brett Rattner or Uwe Boll perhaps?

Levine or Fleischer. The other two nitwits don't know how to choose proper projects which says they're a little short in the brain department.

Or just hire Joe Johnston since he did Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

Johnston already did the first Captain America. Levine seems to be a good choice. His resume shows a good mix of comedy and action with solid character work. Although McKay could allow for crazier action although he is mostly untested in that department.

Still gonna say this movie gets canceled after GOTG bombs

"Johnston already did the first Captain America."

Yes, but he directed a movie wherein people change size to that of ants, which is what Ant Man is pretty much about, which means Johnston could handle a movie that deals with such a concept with relative ease, not that he would offer anything innovative.

As for Levine and character work, I agree, but Ant Man, like ALL marvel movies, isn't going to be a study in anything but comic book action and CGI. No character study there. No room or time for it. Even Winter Soldier had virtually none, unless you call sepia-toned flashbacks with Bucky character "development".

@mink
Yeah but the action demanded for Antman be too complex for Johnston who is very old fashion and this kind of film would require CGI he might not be ready to handle.

I don't know about it not having character development. It's got one of the best and diverse casts with those such as Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd leading. Wide variety might equal something cool.
