Hugh Jackman No Longer Wants to Quit Playing Wolverine

Hugh Jackman No Longer Wants to Quit Playing WolverineSubmit Comment
Immediately after filming "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Hugh Jackman started dropping hints that he may be done with the Wolverine role. But soon after came word that "The Wolverine" sequel and "X-Men: Apocalypse" were in development, and Jackman was in talks for both.

Now that some time has passed and the actor has a chance to see a finished version of "Days of Future Past," he's rethinking abandoning the character. "At one point I said I was pretty sure [that 'Wolverine 3' would be my last film]," he said. "But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever."

Jackman continued: "And during this movie... I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate. So who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it and the fans will have me."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27th, 2016. "Wolverine 3" will follow on March 3rd, 2017.

Let's be honest, no one comes here for the prompt cinematic news.

The comment section is where it's at.

You're quite correct. I don't actually click the articles to see the information. I click them to see what everyone else is saying about them. (There have been more than a few occasions where I didn't even read the entire article, if it all.)

So Singer basically decided to eradicate the whole series and start over? I sure hope not. There were good elements and X1 and X2 deserve to be built on. I heard the producers said to forget X3 and origins which is fine but I demand a continuation with the original cast now! Have some fun with it. This new one is apparently getting critical acclaim so it better be as good as I'm reading. Apparently it has great emotion and a great conclusion. Let's see if critics aren't full of crap for once.

@Sleuth
Seems to be a common practice these days. If things get out of hand, they just wipe the slate clean. Or in the case of things like the Star Trek reboot, they just find a way to branch off into an entirely new direction, while still retaining the plot of the original. Alternate timelines, and all of that Doctor-Who-type jazz. It's lazy, yet can still be somewhat interesting.

Maybe but the first two X-Men were spectacular and to erase those when you still have the same cast alive is ridiculous. The producers keep saying maybe the old cast will return but let's be honest, they are greedy f*cks. They're going to milk this new cast. As soon as I heard of a Mystique film call I could think was, "Yeah, but only because Lawrence is playing her right? God forbid we did one when Romijn was her." And they are doing Gambit, using an actor who is so out of place as the character. Oh forget actually adhering to the comics now! LOL They f*cked that up a long time ago. DOFP, regardless of how good it is as a movie, just uses elements from the comics to satisfy their own ends.

When Star Trek was made in 2009 I was like, "Okay sure." and then Into Darkness came out and, not being a particular all-knowing man of the franchise, didn't realize how little they took care to create a new story. They just wanted young romance (The Spock and Uhura thing was cute in small doses, not as a f*cking couple therapy session in the middle of finding Kahn) and lots of unnecessary action. The whole film was really just a way to introduce a bunch of elements from the series. The problem is that X-Men has never been a solid series. The first two were great, then they started branching off and X3 came out which f*cked up everything.

Now either they are going to do one of two things. One, they time travel and fix the errors of X3 allowing for a continuation of the original cast. This is good both financially to do since the original cast is far more beloved as shown by the amazing response to DOFP. No one cared about First Class which is why it barely broke even although it was a better film, but it lacked atmosphere and they turned it primarily into a love triangle, albeit a very poor one, where Mystique is everyone's good time gal and that is why she becomes evil and all that sh*t.

Say what you want about the original movies but they focused on everyone. Storm, Professor X, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Magneto, Mystique, and so on. I don't know where everyone is getting that First Class was the best X-Men. It was better than the last three films they did sure. LOL It will always be second to X2 which tries to really capture the characters in a wider environment. My hope is Singer is smart and allows them to return which, according to interviews by Patrick Stewart, imply that door is open.

One thing I've learned Atto, newer isn't always better as shown by Man of Steel, Amazing Spider-Man, and whatever YA novel adaptation they kicked out after Harry Potter.

I come here for the news as well OneTime. I don't visit any other film sites so even when it's late, I hear about it here first. But the best part for me is the comments.
Attos writes:

You know, I agree that Origins was bad, but I really wish Liev Schreiber had more than one opportunity to play Sabertooth. He was the only part of that movie I really cared for, and he was an awesome choice for the character. Damn shame he never came back, because the Sabertooth from X1 was a joke.
Attos writes:
on May 18th, 2014 at 2:47:15 PM

And I still say First Class was mediocre at best. There was too much time spent introducing characters (some of whom barely made it past their third line before being killed off) and by the time the movie actually started getting good, the credits rolled.
Attos writes:

They are, really. Sad thing is, the posters' think they're publishing more than childish verbal diarrhea.

Anyway, sounds like Jackman thinks the franchise is going big places and he doesn't want to be left out of it. No surprise.

What is this "dignity" you speak of?
Sleuth1989 writes:
on May 18th, 2014 at 9:15:54 PM

@mink
As someone once said, actors only seem to establish a career nowadays by being in a franchise. THink about it. NAme any big actor in the last five years who is big without a franchise.

Bradley Cooper - Hangover

Jennifer Lawrence - Hunger Games

Shailene Woodley - Remains to be seen by "Divergent"

Andrew Garfield - Amazing Spider-Man

People are too shallow to accept an actor for being more than the face of a big franchise. Be honest, you wouldn't consider any of these actors unless they were in a continuous franchise to remind you who they are.
Sleuth1989 writes:

@Attos
Dignity was that thing that stopped existing when Lawrence won an Oscar for shaking her ass and Avatar got nominated for Best Picture for just being really pretty-looking. LOL Got it now?

Oh and a response to your earlier comments, yes Schrieber was good as Sabertooth and the dysfunctional relationship with Logan was one of the best parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine...probably the only part. LOL
