First Look: Johnny Depp as Mobster Whitey Bulger in "Black Mass"Submit Comment
With "The Lone Ranger" and "Transcendence," Johnny Depp has been struggling at the box office lately. So while he waits to reprise his roles in "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Alice in Wonderland" sequels, the actor decided to star in a smaller film, called "Black Mass."

In the movie, Depp plays James "Whitey" Bulger, a mobster who ran Boston's underground for many years. But last November, he received two life sentences and five years after a jury voted he had a hand in 11 out of 19 murders.

The new movie is directed by Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace, Crazy Heart) and co-stars Guy Pearce, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple, and Jesse Plemons. It's expected to hit theaters in October of 2015.

Lmao. I think you put the wrong pictures here, Alex.

The #CapForStrat thing is about a father whose daughter is dying of cancer, and they've asked if she can see the Avengers movie early, since she likely won't make it to the release date.
Just saying, in case anyone didn't know.

Ah, nevermind.
Fixed it before I was even done posting. Lol.

And I got it backwards anyway. Guess that's what happens when it's 6 am and you half-ass your Google search. Whatever.
Attos writes:

Actually, I got pretty much every part of that wrong. I think it's time to go back to sleep and try this day over again later.

Let's hope this time Depp will deliver like he always did in gangster movies unlike that rubbish of Transcendence.

The transformation is amazing. I'm pretty sure that he is going to give an amazing performance that could earn him the Oscar.

^ ^ Yeah, just like you predicted it with transcendence.

Keep up the good work pal.

f*cking Whitey Bulger lol I remember googlin and reading about the (at the time) top ten most wanted list. I read his entire bio about a month or two before he got caught.

Surprised this bastards even getting a film.

^He's actually getting 2^

Ben Affleck is planning to direct a film about Bulger with Matt Damon as Whitey.

Also, Jack Nicholson's portrayal of Frank Costello in The Departed was heavily influenced by Bulger's real-life exploits.

Jack Nicholson played himself just like in every movie.he needs to lose weight or f*ck off from films
Attos writes:

@Deaft0ne
Lmao, of course Matt Damon is going to play him. I was wondering when those two would get back to doing projects together. It's like Tim Burton always casting his wife in everything. Might as well go with who you know, I guess.

@Attos

Although I think Affleck's film is about Bulger's earlier years and is set in the 50s or something.

with a first name like 'jimmy' and a last name like 'bulger'
you would think those Bahston bahstards would come up with somethin better than 'whitey' as a streetname
minkowski writes:

Yeah, Bulging Johnson or something, but then criminal enterprises aren't much like porngraphy. Much.
minkowski writes:

Anyway, Depp looks nothing at all like Bulger and they likely chose him because he can do eccentric roles well and has a certain cachet with overseas markets, but really there's nothing even remotely appealing about some psycho who was involved in nearly a dozen murderers.

Clothing this idiot in the rich raiments of cinema by giving him his own movie merely perpetuates murder glorification (e.g., Badlands 1973) which in turn provides sociopaths a reason to manipulate the media into the extolling of brutal criminal acts.

"Jack Nicholson played himself just like in every movie.he needs to lose weight or f*ck off from films"

Jack is unofficially retired, and last we heard he couldn't remember lines, which means he's already "f*cked off" from making movies. Don't think you'll see him in anything but a coffin anytime soon.
Yousef writes:

@McQueen When did I ever say that could win an Oscar for Transcendence? You do realise that this movie is getting released in the awards season which means his chances of getting nominated for the Oscar (if his performance is good) are high right?
minkowski writes:
on May 17th, 2014 at 9:34:34 PM

^Transcendence won't win sh*t. Probably won't even get a nom.
bandolero999 writes:

Turkey award maybe
minkowski writes:

lol. Doesn't even deserve a Razzie.
minkowski writes:

"Transcendence is a movie without villains, thrills or, after Nolan fanboys show up, much of an audience."
