Viggo Mortensen Doesn't Like "The Hobbit" and Last Two "Lord of the Rings" Films

Posted: May 16th, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Viggo Mortensen DoesnSubmit Comment
Viggo Mortensen was never interested in returning for "The Hobbit" trilogy. He claims the reason is because his character doesn't appear in the books, but it seems that another reason is that he's not a fan of "Lord of the Rings."

Actually, he likes the first film. But since director Peter Jackson blew most of his budget on it, there was a delay to finish the trilogy. And once more money was allocated, it was a rush to the finish line, with most of the effort going to special effects.

"It was very confusing, we were going at such a pace, and they had so many units shooting, it was really insane," Mortensen explained. "In the first movie, yes, there's Rivendell, and Mordor, but there's sort of an organic quality to it, actors acting with each other, and real landscapes; it's grittier. The second movie already started ballooning, for my taste, and then by the third one, there were a lot of special effects. It was grandiose, and all that, but whatever was subtle in the first movie, gradually got lost in the second and third. Now with 'The Hobbit,' one and two, it's like that to the power of 10."

Mortensen went on to question Jackson's need to use special effects, especially where they're not needed, like in his $65 million "The Lovely Bones" movie. "That should have been a $15 million movie," he said.

More people need to speak up like him. He's just saying what others are too afraid to say.

Should have said this before The Hobbit started shooting

I agree with The Hobbit being a pile of stinking horsesh*t, but I LOVE The Return of the King (blueray edition with extra scenes)

have to agree as well, fellowship was one of those films that just owned over the rest of them, it's expressive introduction on everything including its special effects really lure you into its world and separates itself from the rest of the films

Viggo was never an A lister nor does he have a steady career

I don't think I've ever actually made it through Return of the King, I fall asleep every damn time. That sh*t is like ambien, minus the "making chicks horny" side effect.

Who the f*ck asked sinkholechin his opinion on anything?

And the take-home here is Viggo doesn't like big-budget CGI. He could have just said that and saved the space for more ads or something. "I don't like big-budget CGI". There. How hard is that?

Agree with Mink...the guy is a little based on the subject. Me too actually, Two Towers was by far the best film of the entire series.
