Universal Pictures just unveiled a new international trailer for its upcoming "Lucy" action thriller, starring Scarlett Johansson as the title character. Check it out below.
Plot: The story focuses on a woman (Johansson) who is forced to become a drug mule. But the drug accidentally goes into her body, mysteriously granting her superhuman powers. She can absorb knowledge instantly, is able to move objects with her mind and can't feel pain or distress.
The new movie is written and directed by Luc Besson (The Professional) and co-stars Morgan Freeman. It's set to hit theaters on August 8th.
I've been looking forward to this since the first trailer. I wonder how she feels finally getting to play a character with ACTUAL powers. Well, other than Black Widow's power to wear skin-tight clothing and point her ass at the camera.
There really no reason to take the premise seriously (i.e. arguing the logic or lack of science) as it's really only an excuse for Besson to exercise his sleek action prowess to a semi-superhero level -- basically, making his own comic book movie -- and to parade and posture ScarJo for all her blonde bombshell worth.
In short, I'm find with it being dumb. Just give me some trippy visuals and virtuoso set-pieces à la The Fifth Element and I'll be satisfied.
You people are either incorrigibly stupid or you perpetually bloom positive, because Besson has had only TWO good movies, and they debuted almost twenty years ago, long before he started pushing turds like a diarrhetic elephant.
