Chris Hemsworth Offered Lead Role in "Lethal Weapon" Reboot?Submit Comment
It's been several years since we last heard of an attempt to reboot the "Lethal Weapon" franchise. But now comes word that producer Joel Silver is giving it another shot and is in talks with director Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) and writer Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

According to Tracking Board, "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead role in the new film that will focus on an older cop's son and his wishes to join the police force. Since it's not considered a complete reboot, the older cop must be Riggs, played by Mel Gibson in the original movie.

It's also being reported that Shane Black, the director of "Iron Man 3" and the creator of the "Lethal Weapon" character, is also involved.

Making him Riggs' son is at least somewhat better than if they tried to re-do the whole thing and make him Riggs himself. I guess?

This will bomb along with the Beverly Hills cop whatever it is they're doing. Just waste more money on this crap. Make VR Troopers or beetle borgs movie

Make Hemsworth Murtaugh's son. I can see a resemblance.

f*ck this, just give Mel a f*ck ton of money and do a 5th already! I love these movies and have seen them probably 10+ times each. I'd deffinitely watch another

This one will go over about as well as Chris Pine's Jack Ryan reboot.

I didn't actually mind that one eh Mink ^ It probably would have done better having been a stand alone film and having nothin to do with the Jack Ryan franchise, but te again the jack Ryan name is 80% of why people went to see it..

But the real question is ... although Chris Hemsworth can be Riggs, can he be as Anti-Semitic and sexist as Mel Gibson .... or Dark8 ?
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:

I know who would be a perfect Murtaugh ... Beetlejuice from the Howard Stern Show ... he's the same height as a lawn jockey ... or Dark8.

@max maybe they can have a scene with beetle juice licking hemsworths taint?

First thought that comes to mind is how is this giant Viking going to pass as Riggs son. Mel is Tom Cruise short. Then I remembered how much Rene Russo towered over him and reconsidered. Hemsworth might actually be a perfect fit with Russo's height and broad shoulders and Riggs' 80s hair band mame.

Bring back Mel and Danny dammit!!!!

Mel was fantastic in Get the Gringo. He can still pull off an action movie, shootouts etc. I say make it his son wanting to be a police officer and have russo killed off in the first 20 mins.

Then make it a revenge buddy cop father/son movie with both of them. And as a story thread have his son doing things just as crazy as riggs was and have riggs see it from an outside point of view

This could be a contender for the worst remake ever remade. All it needs now is ice cube as roger and a pg-13 rating and even the makers of the robocop remake will piss themselves laughing with relief.
