"The Mummy" Reboot Loses Its Director

Posted: May 7th, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"The Mummy" Reboot Loses Its DirectorSubmit Comment
Universal Pictures was first in talks with Len Wiseman (Total Recall) to direct its upcoming "The Mummy" reboot. But last July, the helmer dropped out. The studio quickly brought on "Mamma" director Andy Muschetti. And now comes word that he has dropped out as well.

We know from Wiseman's old comments that Universal was developing a darker, scarier version of "The Mummy" that would still appeal to all audiences. The studio eventually decided to go into a more family-friendly direction, something that Muschetti doesn't want to be part of.

The original trilogy grossed a whopping $1.25 billion at the worldwide box office. The reboot will include completely different characters and the story will take place in the modern age.

@Rambo. Jesus, that CGI belongs in a videogame, not on the big screen. lol

I never liked any Mummy flick. The first was alright, I guess. Ehhh...no...I thought they all sucked. Can't lie. The third was atrocious, and his son looked as old as Bredan Fraser in it. What tarded casting. This is my favorite Fraser film:

They need to stick with the PG13 rating, hire some younger people for the cast and take this in the vein of National Treasure/Indiana Jones. There has to be a an awesome setup, a great introduction, some serious non-CGI action, a little cerebral mystery, and the pace and tempo of the best of all treaure-hunt films.

But if they're going to transform the series into a run and jump horror-lite film with a mummy chasing them, that could work too, but only if they go with a hard R. One or the other. But not both.

Another cgi sh*tfest. Surely there's nothing more they can squeeze from this tired old story. It's just gonna be updated cgi and a younger annoying c*nt in the role.

@mink
I'd watch that first one.

If the Mummy reboot gets a new director, then they need to make it be similar to The Mummy from 1999 and like the Mummy Returns from 2001, and nothing like The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor from 2008.
