Lucasfilm has unveiled the full trailer for its upcoming "Star Wars Rebels" animated series, which will premiere this fall as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel. Check out the trailer below.
Plot: It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.
"Star Wars Rebels" takes place between "Star Wars: Episode III" and "Episode IV."
Yep, it's canon. Matter of fact, they just recently started talking about making a lot more future installments official canon in several different fields. Including video games and books. Apparently they've even gathered a team whose job it is to specifically keep everything coherent and ensure continuity between all of the different projects.
I'm not exactly excited for the oncoming flood of Star Wars related crap that means is sure to be rolling out soon, but at least they appear to be going about it in a decent way. Time will tell if it all works out.
Though this was also after an unfortunate "clean slate" wiping out of any previous stories. As of now, ONLY the six live-action films are considered canon. The books, games, cartoons and everything else in the past is now little more than fanfiction.
Animation is still expensive. More expensive than live-action and cel. That's why they have to lower the quality. Making this sh*t on a schedule and making it look good and under cost is hard to do. That's why the animation always blows. That's why the live-action/CGI Star Wars television show was never made.
One day it'll be different. One day live-action and CGI will break even. Or better.
I don't think I've actually seen an animated Star Wars where the animation didnt put me off. Characters always look to odd to give a sh*t about it. Never like the style choices they make. Everyone in his one looks like your watching them through a reflection on the back of a spoon. Off putting.
