"Ben-Hur" Remake Gets Director, Release Date and "Bible" Producers

"Ben-Hur" Remake Gets Director, Release Date and "Bible" ProducersSubmit Comment
Back in August, it was reported that "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov was in talks to direct a remake of "Ben-Hur," which is based on the 1880 Lew Wallace novel that outsold every book (outside of the Bible) until it was eventually beaten by "Gone With the Wind."

Now comes word that Bekmambetov is officially on board and will directed from a script by Keith Clarke, John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). The production also added Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, the producers of "The Bible" mini-series and "Son of God."

MGM just set a release date for "Ben-Hur," which will hit theaters on February 26th, 2016.

i'm sorry but you can't remake perfection this will fail regardless of who's init and who's directing and writing it

A remake is meant to take a terrible movie from the past, use a different approach, advancement in technology, or both, and try to correct the previous mistakes.

This is not a remake. This is taking a name and milking it until the cash flow is gone. There are only a few movies each year that aren't remakes anymore. It's absolutely disgusting what Hollywood has become.

First step to remaking the greats: Godfather, Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind.

Zero - gone with the wind was remade for TV last year with Carrie underwood f*cking it all up

And they're already working in a scarface remake so nothing is safe

It's terrible I remember seeing this but don't remember what it's about

Watch them cast a black guy as Ben Hur to make it "socially relevant" and "cultural"

Well, expect the godfather reboot in the near future.

@blackdynamite
Also, watch them cast a chinese actor as Jesus.

Biz....Carrie underwood remade sound of music last year, not gone with the wind
Zeroguy writes:

@biz
TV movies don't really count. It's like 12 Angry Men was made into a TV movie (by the underrated, under appreciated William Friedkin).
And Scarface, the 83 Stone version, though a "classic" was a remake. Personally, it's an alright film with too much filler in it.

I thought depalma did scarface. What is this, worst posters?
minkowski writes:

Great. Just what we need. Ben Hur with Roman Vampires and an around-the-room Centurion spearchuck.

Yay.

Oliver Stone wrote it. Sorry, should of gave credit to the (much superior) director De Palma.
