Bill Paxton Will Do Anything to Join "Avatar 2"

Bill Paxton Will Do Anything to Join "Avatar 2"Submit Comment
Bill Paxton is not only a good friend of director James Cameron, but the two have worked together on plenty of films, including "The Terminator," "Aliens," "True Lies," "Titanic" and "Ghosts of the Abyss."

So during a WonderCon panel for "Edge of Tomorrow," Paxton was asked whether Cameron asked him to play a role in any of the three upcoming "Avatar" sequels. Paxton's reply was pretty funny.

"I describe Jim Cameron calling me up as being like the Batphone in my house," he explained. "It's like Commissioner Gordon. 'Yes, Jim, what do you want me to do? Set myself on fire? Tell people I have a little d*ck? I'm in! I'm in, Jim!"

Terminator
Aliens
True Lies
Titanic

Three of those films are classics. All of which Bill Paxton was in, even though his part in Terminator was really small. And he probably would have been in Avatar as well but he was busy filming Big Love. So he probably should have a private line strictly for James Cameron.

Better start kissing Cameron's ass, Billy boy. Also, better get yourself a lot of Kleenex.

All I know is there isn't one thing I haven't loved him in. Better actor than most give him credit for. He adds real humor and life into his roles whether he is a freaked-out soldier in "Aliens", a deep-sea explorer in "Titanic", a young/naive brother in "Tombstone" (Enough of a man to admit his death scene broke my heart a little), or his recent cameo in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in which he made the series a thousand times better being in it. Guy deserves a lot more roles.

Paxton is awesome in everything. Even his creepy bad guys in 2 Guns and Vertical Limit are creepier than most. Dude's best outside of Aliens, Weird Science, and Twister has to be Frailty and A Simple plan. But looking over his film list there isn't a movie or show he hasn't made better through his unique charm.
minkowski writes:

Too bad that "unique charm" didn't do d*ck for Twister or Titanic.

Ha!

@mink
Tell that to the 11 Oscars for "Titanic". He had a hand in that. LOL
minkowski writes:
on April 23rd, 2014 at 12:23:26 AM

Bullsh*t. He had nothing to do with any of that unless he was specifically nommed and/or awarded. Like he had sh*t to do with the music/ special effects, et cetera, which is a large bulk of the film. Paxton himself had what? Ten minutes screen time? Which was then shared with twenty other people?

Now you're just trolling.
minkowski writes:

Not to mention Titanic is a vastly over-rated sh*t movie, one bordering on unbearably difficult to watch, and Paxton's presence did NOTHING to assist the film's watchability, which is my point contrary to SmackDaddy's overly-positive mash note to Bill.

Fact is, Paxton is only good in GOOD movies, but does nothing to help poor ones like Twister, though I admit his grating, nasally nerdy voice adds some limited appeal, as in Aliens and True Lies, but when he performs the role of an ordinary man, he's nigh invisible.

Basically...Bill Paxton makes a good character actor, playing one character, and that's it. His range of excellence is egregiously narrow, and his versatility is very close to zero.

All and all, Paxton's fun to watch in those old movies of yesteryear wherein he plays a nerdy street thug, or a nerdy marine, or a nerdy used car salesman, but that's it.

Irony.

Not "only good", but "good only".

f*cking syntactical rules.

@mink
Look man all I know is he helped Cameron with "Ghosts of the Abyss" afterwards so he is friends with him and you don't win 11 Oscars without all the elements playing well together, including the supporting characters which he was whether you want to admit it or not. He covered one storyline with old Rose. Yes he was low on the cast but he contributed.

"you don't win 11 Oscars without all the elements playing well together"

So the guy who played Captain Smith of the Titanic deserves part of the accolades, too? lol.

No. The test of whether some aspect of the film is integral to its acclaim is to ask whether that aspect could be replaced by some other aspect and still remain essentially the same.

For example, if Cameron had foregone nepotism and replaced Paxton with Joe Blow, would anyone have noticed? At best it's very, very doubtful, unless a notorious or infamous actor had taken the role, like Gibson or Cage.

But had Cameron replaced Paxton with any other bland every-man actor nothing would have changed. Bill just wasn't that important and his role was merely but one in the film's preamble and epilogue bookend sideshow.

Fact.

And again, none of Titanic's awards had anything to do with Paxton, unless he himself was nominated for his role, which is highly doubtful, and to say he's in part responsible for, say, sound editing, or CGI or VFX, is to diminish the work of those people who did all the work in which Paxton had absolutely no part.

@Fake Sleuth: hilarious. lol.

The modern day/97 setting in Titanic makes sense for story purposes, but it could have easily been cut from the film to save time and make a period piece.
Only reason it's there is maybe to show our fascination with history, but kind of a time waster.

I don't hate Cameron. His films are excellent (maybe with the exception of Avatar, or at least it's story and characters - good visuals and design). And he seems like a rad guy to hang out with unless you're talking about food or the environment.

And yeah, why not cast Bill. Maybe he's a good luck charm that could make Avatar less preachy.

Paxton's best roles: not in any order

Apollo 13
Tombstone
Weird Science
A Simple Plan
Frailty

Enough said...Frailty being one of my personal favorites with Matthew McConaughey. He also does good comedy, and had a nice part in 2 Guns. Decent actor. Definitely has an established resume.

yourmomgivesgoodhead writes:

He is starting to sound like Thomas Jane.

but really, the guy is a steady actor. Always holds his own. And really his role on Agents of Shield is stellar, imo. And to boot his kinda reminds me of woody Harrelson in regards to his résumé. They both can hold a role down regardless if its a starring or supporting role

Paxton was in those movies? Really? Really?! I sure as f*ck don't remember him being in them. Must be all that epic acting he does. lol.

I get it. This is just a guy people love because of his quirky Cameron roles, so when people see him, they recall those moments and really those moments only.

Well thank god I'm the objective one here.
