Jaden Smith to Play a Slave in "The Good Lord Bird"Submit Comment
Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid, After Earth), the fifteen-year-old son of Will Smith, and Liev Schreiber signed on to star in "The Good Lord Bird," based on a best-selling book by James McBride (Miracle at St Anna, Red Hook Summer).

Plot: Henry "Onion" Shackleford (Smith) is a young slave who links up with radical abolitionist John Brown (Schreiber) in 1856 Kansas and travels the nation with Brown's motley crew of freedom fighters. Story is told with a satirical bent through the eyes of Onion, who wears a dress and is at first mistaken for a girl, as he bears witness to Brown's historic campaign and encounters the likes of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman en route to the bloody Harper's Ferry raid that helped spark the Civil War.

The book made Publishers Weekly's Top 10 Books of the Year list and has drawn comparisons to Mark Twain's classic novel "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Oh Great, another slave movie. Oscar is on the way because, ya know, if you don’t vote for it, you're a racist. Moreover, a talented black actor could have got this opportunity, but they chose to give it to a rich spoiled brat. Nepotism at its best.

That's it kid, stick to what feels natural to you.

Jaden plays a kid named Onion. Makes since. Watching him act makes a lot of people cry.

I thought Jaden took enough of playing a slave by having to star with his old man in After Earth. I guess he just loves punishment.

I think there is a tiny typo in there somewhere....

On the film....Guess Will couldn't win an Oscar so he is going to buy one for his son.

Another film to completely ignore...the name suits the talentless little sh*t. As he does have a face that would make an onion cry

lol, another major failure. What did Will think? Get his kid into a slave movie to save this punk's career just because 12 Years a Slave was a hit with the Obama-obsessed libtards in Hollywood? lmao! Could this *sshole be any more transparent?

God f*ck me, Will will do ANYTHING to get his retarded kid into our lives. What a f*cking joke. And Smith isn't all that talented himself, and was never more than anything than that guy from Fresh Prince.

He tried to get away from that schtick only for white people, who made his name, to turn away because all they wanted was a slick, wisecracking negro. When Will tried to get serious, he FAILED. Same with this stupid, goofy-looking kid, who has all the talent of a bag of rocks.

And then I looked up McBride. f*cker looks like the pimp-hand edition of Spook Lee.

Even worse is that he's written nothing but songs of praise to black people, which is about as racist as you can get.

Quote:

McBride is best known for his 1996 memoir, the bestselling The Color of Water, which describes his life growing up in a large, poor African American family led by a white, religious, and strict Jewish mother, whose father was an Orthodox rabbi, but converted and became devoutly Christian during her first marriage to Andrew McBride.

Racism/slavery.

The memoir spent over two years on The New York Times bestseller list, and has become an American classic. It is read in high schools and universities across America, has been translated into 16 languages, and sold more than 2.5 million copies.

Well of course it was, while the dead white guys who actually contributed something to history and the world get omitted.

In 2002, he published a novel, Miracle at St. Anna, drawing on the history of the overwhelmingly African American 92nd Infantry Division in the Italian campaign from mid-1944 to April 1945. The book was adapted into the movie Miracle at St. Anna, directed by Spike Lee, released on September 26, 2008.

Racism/slavery.

In 2005, he published the first volume of The Process, a CD-based doc*mentary about life as lived by low-profile jazz musicians.

Black "musicians".

McBride's 2008 novel, Song Yet Sung, is about an enslaved woman who has dreams about the future, and a wide array of freed black people, enslaved people, and whites whose lives come together in the odyssey that surrounds the last weeks of this woman's life. Harriet Tubman served as an inspiration for the book, and it provides a fictional depiction of a code of communication that enslaved people used to help runaways attain freedom. The book, based on real-life events that occurred on Maryland's Eastern Shore, also featured the notorious criminal Patty Cannon as a villain.

Racism/slavery.

In 2012 McBride co-wrote and co-produced Red Hook Summer (2012) with Spike Lee.

Spook Lee. Racism/Slavery.

In July 2013, McBride co-authored Hard Listening (2013) with the rest of the Rock Bottom Remainders.

Self-serving band full of authors who think they're musicians.

In August 2013 McBride's newest novel, a comedy, The Good Lord Bird was released by Riverhead Books. The new work is about the life of notorious abolitionist John Brown. It won the National Book Award.

RacismSlavery.

OMFG, spare me from black people and their obsession with their alleged oppression.
