"Scarface" Reboot Hires Director, Tony Montana Will Be Mexican

"Scarface" Reboot Hires Director, Tony Montana Will Be MexicanSubmit Comment
About four years ago, Universal Pictures announced that it was developing another version of "Scarface," which was first released in 1932 and then turned into the iconic Al Pacino film in 1983.

Then in August we learned that "Harry Potter" director David Yates was in talks to direct the new film from a script by David Ayer (Training Day). Now comes word that Yates is out and Chilean director Pablo Larrain (No) is in. And the script has been re-written by Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco).

The new film will have very little to do with the first two versions, except the title and the general premise, which will focus on a Mexican immigrant who ruthlessly pursues his American dream. The story will be set in modern day Los Angeles.

Why not just do a sequel with Al Pacino! Somehow Tony survived being shot in the back with a shotgun and now wants revenge!

Sounds less dumb than a Mexican reboot.
Who are they gonna cast as Tony? Danny Trejo...

The Mexican Scarface probably sounded more promising on paper, but it'll be so underwhelming...

You see the news, you read the books, look at the Narco websites that make Faces Of Death look like child's play, but you start to understand that really ALMOST ALL the drug kingpins started poor and the only real training is from rogue Mexican military-trained soldiers.

The simple fact is this new Scarface will pale in comparison to the real Narco tales... I don 't think Hollywood would be able to match Mexico's real grittiness, violence, power, corruption, and drugs on the big screen. Period.

@Donyae

There are many remakes that are better than Scarface.

I definitely agree with The Thing, The Fly, and True Grit.

The remakes of the Thing wasn't better then the original. Sorry not sorry

@Tanman. Carpenter's 1982 classic was a remake of the 50s THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, which if you read the article DeaftOne linked, it makes that abundantly clear. Of course, you're thinking of 2011 underwhelming prequel, which was basically the same goddamn story as Carpenter's film, and essentially a remake ( and it sucked sh*t, IMO).

I agree with THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS in that article as well. I just watched that film again last week, and it was a brilliantly directed bit of paranoia by Kaufman.
