New Photo of Tom Hardy in "Mad Max: Fury Road," Plus Possible Plot SynopsisSubmit Comment
We've been talking about a new "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie for years and sometimes it seems that it will never be released. But today, we have a new photo of Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) as the title character, as well as a rumored plot synopsis. Check out both below.

Plot: The newest edition of the "Mad Max" will take place before the second installment. The story will fill the gap of how Max (Hardy) transitioned from a rogue police officer to a survivalist in the Outback as he was portrayed in the second and third films.

Shortly after avenging his wife and son's death, Max Rockatansky left the MFP and headed for the Outback. He is now on his own as the world slowly plummets in the aftermath of the oil crisis and the global war. With nothing except his powerful Pursuit Special, Max now has to learn how to survive the post-apocalyptic wastelands and battle the fierce, ruthless warriors who inhabit them.

Plot synopsis: In a post apocalyptic world people kill each other.

Although I think that George Miller had been planning this film around the time that Mel Gibson did Lethal Weapon 4 and he was originally going to reprise his role.

There is an interview out there with Gibson where he talks about the script but I think it ended up in development hell until a couple years ago.

Also Miller made Happy Feet 1&2 which both did huge business so maybe he was fine letting this lag for a while. Although I am glad that the original writer and director of the first 3 MM movies made this one and not Paul WS Anderson and a script by Skip Woods.

Yeah if you go to production it was actually in development after Beyond Thunderdome and it mentions Gibson's involvement.

Garbage franchise.

Hmmmm. Might be more interesting if it wasn't trying to pull a Superman Returns by pretending we're all still living in 1977.

I will admit, I've never actually seen a Mad Max movie.

Imagine Rollerball but set in the world of Dune without any of its fantasy and sci-fi elements and instead the vehicles from Escape from LA, the characters from Waterworld and the plotting of a living glass snail tongue-nailed* to a chalkboard.

That's Mad Max.

*snails actually have a tongue. It's called a radula.

Seriously, who doesn't like mad max. Mad max was great, road warrior was amazing, and beyond thunderdome well I dont even consider it part of the mad max series. Really it wasnt supposed to be in the first place. From what I remebered they were supposed to be two different movies but miller smushed them together into a movie that makes absolutely no sense in the mad max world. A grown man in leather hanging out with kids in loin cloths?

But regardless im really looking forward to fury road. I have been for like 15 years when I first heard of it. I really thought it was an urban myth. And Tom Hardy is the sh*t, he'll make an awesome max

@stuntmanbob

Beyond Thunderdome was a peculiar and sloppy film and Tina Turner was just distracting with her ubiquitous troll wig.

But I like this idea of an interquel for Fury Road. As long as it maintains a sense of story or connectedness that leads into The Road Warrior then it should be a fun ride.

Beyond Thunderdome isn't the greatest film but it is the definition of a cult classic. It has very memorable scenes and gets randomly quoted all the time in our pop culture.

"Two men enter one man leaves"

Master Blaster

"Who runs Bartertown"

"It's dying time"

"Break a deal, face the wheel"

It's all that was good and bad about 80s cinema wrapped up into one movie. Big hair, silent hero, great one liners, post apocalyptic future, rock star villain, and tons of action.

Oh and of course it had a Billboard chart topping theme song. What's not to like about this movie!?!?
minkowski writes:

"What's not to like about this movie!?!?"

How about the fact none of things you mention are actual aspects of the films in question?

Eh so basically the story of how a man's car runs out of gas and he foots it the rest of the way.
