Disney Has Yet to Greenlight "Pirates of the Caribbean 5"Submit Comment
The fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, called "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," already has directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) on board, and Johnny Depp will reprise his role.

But during Disney's recent shareholder meeting, CEO Bob Iger revealed that the new movie has yet to receive a green light. It's not clear what the hesitation is since the last installment grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Iger went on to reveal the first look at "Treasure Cove," a "Pirates of the Caribbean" land that's being built at the Shanghai Disneyland Resort, which will open late 2015. Check out the concept art for "Treasure Cove" below.

Greenlighting 100$ Disney tix?
no time at all

They’re weighing the pop-culture worth. Despite the last film’s success, the Pirates franchise might be looking rather second-rate compared to Marvel and Star Wars. Disney has a lot of money, but they don’t quite yet have all of it. And all these franchise films are major expensive.

Does anyone care about this sh*t franchise anymore?

What was once a great franchise has now become a guilty pleasure.

Bring on the sequel, in secret.

@boogiel Apparently they do since every update about it is big news and why are you here if you don't care? The last one made a f*cking billion dollar so nobody cares if you don't like it or think that nobody cares about it.

Yeah, I think they're just a wee bit busy at this moment with the BO trifecta heavyweights: Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, but they'll get back to the multi-billion dollar franchise really soon. You can bet on it.
