Disney Announces "The Incredibles 2" and "Cars 3"

Disney Announces "The Incredibles 2" and "Cars 3"Submit Comment
Disney just announced that it will re-release 3D versions of "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" in theaters. Pixar fans immediately responded by letting the studio know that instead of re-releasing "The Incredibles," it should instead make "The Incredibles" sequel.

Now comes word that Disney has been planning exactly that. CEO Robert Iger announced that work on "The Incredibles 2" has already started, despite the fact that director Brad Bird has been saying that a sequel will likely never happen. It's not clear whether Bird will replace.

During the same announcement, Iger said that "Cars 3" is also in development. No surprise there since the "Cars" franchise is one of the biggest sellers of toys and other merchandise.

Iger made sure to confirm that Pixar will be working on both sequels rather than Disney's animation department.

Brad Bird must have finally had the bathroom revelation he was seeking. I know I did.

"despite the fact that director Brad Bird has been saying that a sequel will likely never happen."

Uh, no he didn't.

In researching for that article I read back in 2011 regarding why Disney will never make an Incredibles sequel, I ran across many of Bird's quotes, and at no time did he says he would likely never make a sequel, only that he was looking for the right story, which was, at the time, taking him to task, given his other projects.

Please stop lying, good sir.

You said it before. Bird must direct the film or it will fail. He has a kind of old fashion style of filmmaking to him as shown by the picturesque environments his characters tend to live in most of the time. He is a blast. Every film he does is smart, fun, and inventive. I really hope he returns. Couldn't care less if Cars 3 gets made though. Never even saw the second one. First one was a nice road trip movie though.

@Sleuth: you said it too, and a lot of us have as well.

Bird provided the soul of the first film, and it's only appropriate he do the same for the second.

Well do what you will and believe what you believe because I am praying for this one. We're going to need every force on and off the Earth because Disney tends to screw things up unless Heaven and Earth move them.

I'm not surprised that they are going with an Incredibles 2, since i couldn't really see a reason to rerelease Incredibles in 3D.

I am surprised however, that they decided to go with Incredibles 2 despite the fact they already have the Marvel properties, and they killed off Syndrome in Iron Man 3.
