Pixar to Re-Release "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" in 3D Theaters

Pixar to Re-Release "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" in 3D TheatersSubmit Comment
Pixar's Josh Hollander just revealed that the studio is converting "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" to 3D in order to re-release the animated films in theaters.

"Right now we're working on 'The Incredibles,' which is a lot of fun in 3D. I'm not sure what the release strategy for it will be," he said. "It's been an interesting challenge to work on technology because - while the film was released 10 years ago - the technology is even older as it took four years to make."

Hollander continued: "We have a version of 'Ratatouille,' which works really well in 3D and we're trying to figure out exactly what the release strategy for that will be."

Should have sent it to IMAX instead. That's where the money is.

And you know, maybe make that Incredible sequel already.

@mink
When they do this it's usually a sign they are thinking about doing a sequel. They did this with Monsters Inc. before Monsters University came out. However, due to brad Bird doing Tomorrowland they are probably waiting for him to finish since he was so directly involved with the story and film. Point is, they are trying to get the film back into people's minds. Actually to note, these both were done by Brad Bird so I definitely think that is exactly what they are going for.

@Sleuth: Maybe, but I've read that Pixar has very concrete reasons for no doing an Incredibles sequel, and I don't think those reasons have changed.

*not.

How about instead of a re-release, we get the sequel we've been waiting for these last 10 years?

@Sleuth: no sorry, it was an opinion piece mixed with quotes from Pixar.

What I recall is that while Bird is waiting for the right idea to hit him, Pixar isn't all that interested in a sequel. Can't recall why, but it may have something to do with where Disney is going with their Pixar movies, and the fact The Incredibles isn't what Disney wants since they have Marvel now.

So, yeah, that's it, IIRC. Disney has Marvel so there's absolutely no reason for them to push for a Pixar comic book movie when they already have a superhero tentpole empire.

Took me a minute to tease of the reason. Must be getting old or something.

I wouldn't mind an Incredibles/Marvel crossover, with The Incredibles rendered photo-realistically, but then I never got that Futurama/Simpsons crossover movie, so no joy for me.

@matternm58 Megamind is made by Dreamworks Animation...

Not going to lie, Incredibles does have a lot of scenes that look like they were made for 3D.

That being said, they should do an Incredibles 2 while they're at it, and audiences still toss insane amounts of money at superhero movies.
