"Need for Speed" Underperforms at Box Office, "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" Takes Top SpotSubmit Comment
"Need for Speed," starring Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad") and based on the popular video game franchise, struggled at the box office this weekend, grossing under $18 million, which was under the $30 million expectations and only good enough for third place.

The $66 million film will struggle to make its money back domestically, but luckily it was able to bring in another $45.6 million overseas for a worldwide debut of $63.4 million. "Need for Speed" is also not a favorite with critics. On RottenTomatoes, it currently has a lousy 24% fresh rating.

"It's a disappointing start on the domestic side, but to open to that number worldwide and nearly match the budget of the film is great," said Disney. "This was a very affordable movie and with many territories left to open, everyone will be just fine. We feel great about where we are."

"Need for Speed" lost to the animated "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," which took first place in its second week with $21.2 million, bringing its worldwide total to $148 million, just over its $145 million budget.

The other new wide release of the weekend was Tyler Perry's "The Single Moms Club, which landed in fifth place with $8.3 million, the worst opening of any Tyler Perry movie. It has a 22% fresh rating.

On the specialty side, "Veronica Mars" hit theaters in 291 locations, grossing $2 million. The film raised $5.7 million on Kickstarter and is selling and renting well via digital avenues. On RottenTomatoes, it has a 76% fresh rating.

Jason Bateman's R-rated comedy "Bad Words" was released in 6 theaters, earning a decent $120,000. It has a 67% fresh rating.

And finally, Jake Gyllenhaal's "Enemy" thriller was released in 1 theater, where it earned $18,000. It has an 81% fresh rating.

Even Tyler Perry fans are sick of Tyler Perry now.

Also, i'm sure that Enemy will have a wider release alex.

Need for Speed was the movie, one of them anyway, Dustin gushed over via his Facebook page, IIRC.

I wonder if it's ever occurred to him that his career as a film critic might never be what he wants it to be because he's so out of tune with the majority of film-goers...

The Single Mom's Club failed because a) its casting is aimed squarely at women, and b) it splits the black-white demographic, even though most of all white Americans, white women especially, haven't heard of Perry or his films, which is largely his fault because he does little to make his films more inclusive, which is a necessary prerequisite to him helming films that aim for a more pan-America penetration.

Methinks Perry also ever-rates his name-brand recognition.

Car films are sh*t, they are boring and uninteresting, only weird c*nts like Bullit and his piss soaked pants love sh*t like this.

Agree about Pinkman, his character just f*cking winged and moped around all the time, the only person that made BB great was Walter himself, Jonathan Banks character was great too, show went down a tad in my opinion after he died.

This Aaron Paul c*nt is a boredom whore, kind of like Bullit on his best day.
