Marc Webb Will NOT Direct "The Amazing Spider-Man 4"

Marc Webb Will NOT Direct "The Amazing Spider-Man 4"Submit Comment
Sony Pictures is releasing "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" on May 2nd, and has already set release dates for the third (June 10, 2016) and the fourth (May 4th, 2018) installments.

We know that director Marc Webb will return for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3." But in a new interview with The Daily Beast, he revealed that he'll leave the franchise after he finishes the trilogy.

"I'd like to be involved as a consultant," he said about the fourth film, "And I've already talked to these guys about it. But in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else."

Webb went on to talk about "The Amazing Spider-Man" spin-offs, which will focus on "Venom" and "The Sinister Six." He said: "We're building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven't seen in other Spider-Man movies - The Sinister Six, Venom, and more. We'd all love to overlap with other studios, but it's beyond my pay grade," he said.

Webb won't do the fourth? Yeah, right. He'll be back with the right price. They ALL do.

I only care about Spiderman 8, 9, & 10. So let me know in a couple days what the status is on those.

They could hire a drunk monkey to ape Sam Raimi, so Webb leaving isn't really much of a shocker. Not like anyone actually cares who directs the films, and not like Webb is a household name with pop-cultural cachet. Perhaps his departure will improve the films, especially if they hire a fresh writer, too.
