"Fantastic Four" Director, Writer and Cast Have Been Fired?

"Fantastic Four" Director, Writer and Cast Have Been Fired?Submit Comment
20th Century Fox has been moving fast to get its "Fantastic Four" reboot into theaters by 2015. Now that the film is about to go in front of the cameras, Bleeding Cool is reporting that the studio fired director Josh Trank (Chronicle), writer Simon Kinberg, and the entire cast.

This sounds completely crazy, but the website claims the news comes from a very reliable source. Plus, Fox was working on a "Daredevil" reboot before giving up and letting the rights revert back to Marvel. So who knows whether the studio lost confidence in "Fantastic Four" as well.

Many other sites have come forward denying the story, but Bleeding Cool replied by stating that if Fox doesn't want stories about how it's looking to replace its director, the studio should stop approaching other directors.

As much as I liked Chronicle, and as much as I feel Trank did a good job, I don't feel the decisions he's made so far properly reflect the direction FOX should go with this franchise in establishing a larger fanbase and competing with Marvel, which is exactly what they should be doing.

Having said that, they shouldn't fire Trank but instead seriously reconsider the decisions he's made and whether or not they reflect FOX's attitude with respect to where they want to go with the given property.

Also, a great article from Forbes Magazine on why they think DC is going to lose

I'm thinking the positive feedback from the guardians trailer might have given fox pause for thought on the direction FF was obviously headed. Hope this report is true personally because an FF film could be good in the hands.

FOX denies rumor and says Trank is on set "right now".

@Rambo: As I mentioned many months ago, Chronicle is clearly a "rip", or heavily inspired by, the X-Files episode Rush.

And of course Akira.

Reboot this sh*t already. Id like to think Trank could do well if Fox says no black guys. Seriously have the token black guy be the human torch. f*cking genius dude. Like the porch monkey scene in Clerks II.

I have no real problem with the direction Trank is taking the reboot. At least not yet. The casting alone is not necessarily indicative of the films overall style or tone, and especially not its potential for more sophisticated storytelling, particularly when compared to the previous FF films.

I'd rather have a director making inspired choices than orthodox ones.

If this news turns out to be accurate, it will be be hilariously insane.

its cause of the black guy

"I'd rather have a director making inspired choices than orthodox ones."

YOU would, but then you're not the studio which as a corporation is almost always fully interested in adhering to staid fair in the name of expected profit.

Besides, Trank already pretty much jettisoned orthodox when he did Chronicle, and with FOX competing directly with Marvel and Sony, they need to stick with what works and not venture in the the wastelands of "experimental" film-making, which is an area better plumbed along the high-budget indie circuit.

I would also mention that Fantastic Four doesn't possess pop-cultural high-visibility, nor is it much well-respected, so whatever FOX does, it had better correct both of those shortcomings instead of deepening the rift between the franchise and its reputation within the given audiences.

As it stands now, Trank hasn't done much but pander to diversity and political-correctness, and his evaporating acclaim as the director of Chronicle will carry him only so far.

@Cannon: and that wasn't a dig at you, just a comment reflecting on how people often believe corporations, which are motivated almost entirely by profit, should behave like the typical man on the street, with his notions of art, and quality and inventiveness, when in fact corporations are nothing more than organic Leviathans eating raw resources, sh*tting consumable goods and caching cash within their fatty organs.
