Three Directors Considered for Marvel's "Doctor Strange"

Posted: March 12th, 2014 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Three Directors Considered for MarvelSubmit Comment
Marvel confirmed multiple times that "Doctor Strange" will be one of the studio's upcoming movies. But when a list of potential directors was posted online, Marvel head Kevin Feige was quick to dismiss the news.

The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that two of the originally-mentioned helmers are in fact being considered for the job. Those helmers are Mark Andrews (Brave) and Jonathan Levin (Warm Bodies, 50/50).

The outlet went on to add another name to the mix, Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Day the Earth Stood Still).

Hmm...Scot derricks did a great job on sinister and the excorcisim of Emily rose. I'd go with him.

I was always a fan of Doctor Strange but a film version might prove to be a bit of a challenge, at least concerning scenes where the hero is put into action.

If done poorly, unimaginatively, it'll just be an actor standing around doing a lot of pantomiming -- throwing out his hands in every direction with a bunch of CG crap shooting out. Such is an unavoidable characteristic of Doctor Strange but they need to be precious with it by trimming it down, finding ways around it or else aforesaid scenes will quickly grow tiresome.

Strange is a martial artist, so they should also include that aspect; give him other more physical things to do. And they should also incorporate as much bizarre mystical-horror elements as possible (within reason) to give the film its edge. Doesn't need to be an R-rated assault on kids but, well, look at this way...

Basically, do what Carpenter did with Big Trouble in Little China: lots of crazy sorcery, demons, monsters and Kung Fu. Just don't have Strange standing around and...pointing...magic attacks like Harry Potter. In other words, the director needs to be inventive with his set pieces, and keep it fun.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose was a great film and what was even more astonishing is the film that is actually based on the true story of Anneliese Michel which was literally a living hell. No pun intended.

*is the true*

Have you ever actually read about the real case? The movie, which was far from a 'great' film was very loosely based on what actually occured. That poor woman was mentally ill and was starved to death by her religiously delusional family and priests that were unaware of her psychological condition.

Her case specifically caused there to now be a requirement that a physician is present should any other idiots think that exorcisms are a rational idea under any circ*mstances.

@Deaftone

Yes, the film has little to do with the real case. However, the film itself was good enough for me as I'm not really a fan of the horror genre.

I remember reading her story when the film came out and it was quite chilling. To me she was really possessed and if you have the guts (which I don't) to watch and listen this footage then perhaps you would reconsider the mentally ill thing. be aware, It's VERY disturbing:

I remain convinced that it was a genuine case of evil attacks and possessions.

Both are a good choice, and both have reasons they should be chosen. Probably have to go with Andrews though, because he knows how to work a big-budget production pipeline. On the other hand, Levin knows how to make a lot of money out of little. On the other hand, the latter isn't in an issue with Marvel and Disney behind Dr. Strange.

Touch choice. It'll probably come down to how they interview and how well they seem to to mesh with what Disney/Marvel is doing.

Whichever director can be the best submissive bitch Disney is looking for will get the job.

Meh...I'd go with Derrickson if I had to...

But personally, Constantine's Francis Lawrence would've been a better choice.
