Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb Want Spider-Man to Join The Avengers

Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb Want Spider-Man to Join The AvengersSubmit Comment
When "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Avengers" were nearing their release dates, there were rumors that the characters would cross-over into each other's films. It was later confirmed that there were actual talks about this. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of those talks due to the difficulties of forcing Sony to work with Disney.

While promoting "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and director Marc Webb were asked whether they would love to see Spider-Man team up with The Avengers.

"I think everyone would love to see that. I would love that. I know the fans would love that. The more [superheroes] the better. The bigger the better," said Garfield. Stone added: "I think it would be amazing."

Webb said: "I would love that. Just as a fan that would be great. I don't know how that would happen, but I certainly would be supportive of it."

Webb went on to say that efforts were made to make that happen, but "nothing came to fruition." Garfield added: "Obviously big business and lawyers, and rights issues are an obstacle."

I've got a better idea Sony, just sell your Spiderman rights to Disney.

Well, ya see, here's the thing about both Sony and Fox: they're fags.

Yeah, right. Keep dreamin'. That ain't gonna happen until spidey's rights is back to marvel/disney.

In other words, they want to be part of something that doesn't suck.

I'd like that too, but it's not going to happen as long as the Sony films are profitable in any way, and they are because Sony, in addition to BO revenue, gets a nice cut of all licensing revenue generated from toys and books and everything else, plus Marvel gets a cut too, from the Sony films, so it's not necessarily even in Marvel's interest at this point to take the rights back.

What I can see happening, though is Marvel running out of material for blockbuster movies, which would then force them to buy the rights back with an added cut of the profit going to Sony for a contractual length of time, say ten or twenty years, but probably the latter. Same for FOX with respect to The X-Men.
