Female Version of "The Expendables" Hires Director, Plot Synopsis RevealedSubmit Comment
It seems that Millennium Films is very serious about creating an all-female version of "The Expendables," because the company just hired Robert Luketic (Killers, 21) to direct the upcoming film, called "The ExpendaBelles," from a script by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde).

Plot: When America's Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world's top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world's deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator and instead save the scientist and the day.

Casting is currently underway, with Meryl Streep, Milla Jovovich and Cameron Diaz previously mentioned to be in talks.

A feminist propaganda piece of "women can too". 9_9 . This sounds atrociously bad.

Yeah good work in the battling of objectification of women!

I know what they're trying to do, but it doesn't translate well...there are really no elderly action actresses. The closest you'll get is Geena Davis, Sigourney Weaver, Pam Grier, or Linda Hamilton. I bet they'd be up for it but c'mon, they're not gonna pull off the action!! The boss yeah, but not the ones dodging exploisons...

It'll have to be young or MILF actresses kicking ass in skimpy outfits which they're boatloads of nowadays. Take your pick...Carano, Jovovich, Beckinsale, or even Biel...

But really? A women-empowering movie by setting them up as sexual objects?! Written by women?!! I was expecting more than a ridiculous generic action plot...

Meh...

The only way they can pull this off, IMO, is if they dial it down avoiding Charlie's Angels (Liu/Diaz/Barrymore) cheesiness and stay more to gritty action like a Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor character in T2 with deadpan humor....with the required gratituous nakedness of course...

....with the obligatory lesbian character. I'm looking at you Michelle Rodriguez. LOL...

Wait the writer has the last name Lutz? Please tell me that girl Karen Lutz is not related to Kellen Lutz? Oh God no!!!
minkowski writes:

@Sleuth: they're not related and she's not an actress. She's a writer. She wrote Legally Blonde and Ten Things I Hate About You, plus others. So relax.
Sleuth1989 writes:

@mink
I never said I thought she was an actress. I knew she was a writer. I'm just saying that was a heck of a coincidence and not exactly a common last name. Not like I'm seeing this anyway. LOL
minkowski writes:

My point is that you drew an irrational comparison between Kellan Lutz, who is a terrible actor, with Karen Lutz, who is a decent writer.

Even if they were related, there's no reason to think Karen would suck at writing just because her brother/son/whatever sucks at acting.

In other words, I was commenting on the logical disconnect between the two people as implied by your original comment.
