Philip Seymour Hoffman Leaves One Major "Hunger Games" Scene UnfilmedSubmit Comment
THR is reporting that before his death, Philip Seymour Hoffman had seven days of filming left for the last two "The Hunger Games" movies, in which he plays Plutarch Heavensbee, a key figure in a revolution at the center of the story.

The character would have appeared in several more scenes, including one major one that may create issues for Lionsgate. But the studio feels it can finish both films without Hoffman.

"We're all extraordinarily sad," said Lionsgate. "But as it relates to production, it's going to have no impact. Obviously, we're going to have a couple of work-around issues but the movie will be creatively whole. His performances in both [remaining] movies will be up to the best of his craft. We feel it will be a good tribute to him."

The studio refused to elaborate on which crucial scene remains to be shot, but experts believe that there shouldn't be a problem working a digital version of Hoffman into one scene. "I won't say you could generate a Philip Seymour Hoffman with all the acting ability, but you could certainly replicate him for a shot or two," said Rob Legato, an effects supervisor for "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Any costs associated with Hoffman's absence will likely be paid by the film's insurance, which gives Lionsgate even more reason to put in the time to make sure Hoffman looks great in one of his last performances.

so there going to use cgi to replace him ok it seems cheaper then re-filming all his scenes

This wouldn't have happened if you had just made one damn movie instead of two. Filming would have been done by now or close to it. All the great performances and one of Hoffman's last ones will be this garbage. By the way has anyone seen Synedoche, New York? I am a Charlie Kaufman fan and wondering if it is worth checking out.

So you avoid all movies that feature no longer living actors and actresses? Really?

"That's gotta be so sh*tty for the film company.."

Nothing compared to what Paul Walker did to Universal and all his cast-mates...

Imagine your death being considered a "workaround issue". I don't have a lot of sympathy for the guy and him putting his addiction before his family... but that's pretty cold.

@Ireland: what else were they supposed to say? They were asked specifically how his death affects the film's production schedule, not how they personally feel about the man's passing.

Contextually, there's no realistic reply save the one they gave.

Hoffman knew he had a week left of filming as Plutarch when he was on his heroin binge that killed him. I seriously doubt he cared if he is CGI'd in for one scene of the movie.

He knew his binge would most likely kill him.
