M. Night Shyamalan Re-Teams With Bruce Willis For "Labor of Love"

M. Night Shyamalan Re-Teams With Bruce Willis For "Labor of Love"Submit Comment
Back in 1993, M Night Shyamalan wasn't a very well-known Hollywood figure, but he did manage to sell a script, called "Labor of Love," to 20th Century Fox. The project ended up going nowhere, mostly because Shyamalan kept pushing the studio to let him direct it. The script eventually resurfaced a few years ago when Denzel Washington became interested in it, but once again, nothing happened.

Now comes word that Shyamalan made a deal for the rights to the script and attached Bruce Willis, the star of Shyamalan's "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable," to play the lead role. The project is already financed and the plan is to start production in September in Philadelphia.

In "Labor Of Love," Willis will play a Philadelphia book store owner who loses the love of his life in a tragic accident. Never big on words, he becomes haunted by the notion that he never properly told his wife how much he loved her. Since she once asked if he would walk across the country for her, he decides to show her posthumously just how much he did love her. That trek starts from Philadelphia to Pacifica, CA, which was her favorite place.

He should reteam for Unbreakable 2 or else throw his curry-eating ass in front of a speeding Peterbilt.

I'm surprised they still give this guy money to direct films. He's been going downhill for the last decade.

Hollywood is very clannish. You're either one of them or you're not. If you're one of them, you can commit murder, rape a child, or forcible sodomize a teenage boy with a carrot and they'll still back you. Because you're one of them. It's like a really large, super-extended family. Like the police, really. You're either in or you're not. Again, like the police who look the other way when one of them goes astray.

So you can bomb you're ass off and instead of kicking you out, they'll just bust you down to private, which means five million to make your next film instead of fifty million.

On the other hand, if you espouse political/social/culture views they don't like, you're irrevocably dead to them. You might find work on the fringe, but your time at the hive core, the hub-bub of like-minded fraternity, is over.

Trust me, the day M. Night speaks out against gay marriage or affirmative action, is the day he'll receive his walking papers.

You betcha.

So is the new school thinking that when willis is phoning it in...you hire a director who has been phoning it in for even longer? Like a 2 wrongs make a right kind of bullsh*t??

I see potential for a decent drama, but the track record for both the last decade has me thinking the odds are not there for this to be good

@mink
It seems Washington D.C. isn't the only place that needs to be reconfigured. Art and politics are two of the major influences in the world. And both are pushing overly-liberal concepts with zero thought or logic in it, substituted by an oversensitive attitude to everything that doesn't allow people to do whatever the f*ck they want.

Sounds like sh*t from a sh*t director. More sh*t. sh*t. sh*t. sh*t.

Denzel was interested in this because a nice cushy kickback phoned in performance is all thats required

'never big on words'

I'd honestly love an Unbreakable 2 as long as its done right. And I'll end up watching this because Bruce is in it
