Discuss: Why Are So Few Women Working in Hollywood?Submit Comment
Even though 2013 was a great year for women in front of the camera, including for Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence and Melissa McCarthy, women behind the camera didn't have similar results.

The 16th annual Celluloid Ceiling report revealed that there has been no increase in the amount of women working in film over the past year, with women accounting for just 16% of directors, writers, executive producers, producers, editors and cinematographers working on the 250 highest-grossing domestic films of 2013.

The study reveals that the percentage of women working in film is slightly lower than it was in 1998, the first year of the study. It's also down 2% from 2012.

"The film industry is in a state of gender inertia. There is no evidence to suggest that women's employment has improved in key behind-the-scenes roles over the last 16 years," said the report.

Women made up only 6% of all directors working on the top grossing films of 2013, a decrease of 3% from 2012. Women comprised 10% of writers, 15% of executive producers, 25% of producers, 17% of editors and 3% of cinematographers.

This year's study expanded to include the percentage of women working as composers (2%), production designers (23%), sound designers (4%), special effects supervisors (2%), supervising sound editors (9%) and visual effects supervisors (5%).

Because Melissa McCarthy is eating her competition.

Why Are So Few Women Working in Hollywood?

Because so few of them willing to sleep with H'wood top brass. Those women need to learn from Jennifer Lawrence.
minkowski writes:

Because they're too busy changing their rag.
minkowski writes:

In other news, why are most nurses female? Why are most stewardesses female? Why are most mothers (with the exception of Cress) female?

Because this is where women gravitate. They don't gravitate to film directing, or oil drilling or computers or screenwriting, so stop trying to artificially introduce some kind of make believe equality.

Keep the doors open and your hiring policy fair and people will gravitate to where they want to go.

"Discuss: why does this site suck so bad?"

The real question you should be asking is "why doesn't it swallow?".
mrstretch writes:

She must be a prude. Or a nun.
minkowski writes:

Well she ain't Alex's mother, because I know for a fact *she* swallows.

@boogiel
Damn you beat me to the JL thing. LOL

@everyone
But really. It's because people like JL and Sandra Bullock monopolize roles. And plus a lot of actresses stick to smaller things that aren't award fueled. It's because they aren't sell outs. LOL Those women deserve the awards. They manage to be intelligent while not just feeding stupidity.
minkowski writes:
on January 14th, 2014 at 10:14:32 PM

Anyway, the real answer to this stupid question is: because men rule the world, and that's the way it is, the way it should be, and the way god nature wanted it.

We all know Alex's mom takes it real deep. He's the result of a lonely lot lizard and a sleepy trucker. That would partially explain his incompetence on running a website.

@Sleuth: thanks. And a big fat f*ck you to Jennifer Lawrence. Just saw her interview with Conan (the host, not the Destroyer) wherein she talks about all the buttplugs her maid found under her bed.

Yeah, not much class on that one. Or talent.

On a side note I just watched some of The Last Stand on netflix. It's worse than it looks. Avoid it like a plague.
minkowski writes:

Even worse is Escape Plan, which shares its action with two aging stars, both of whom do nearly nothing the entire film.

LOL You should have seen the Golden Globe acceptance speech which I believe started with a fake shock look on her face and then "Don't do this again!". What an idiot. Anyway what did you do Sunday mink? I am curious now since you swore off this sham of an award show.
Sleuth1989 writes:

@mink
And say what you want about Escape Plan but at least there was even a small remnant of a story and thought put into it. Unfortunately it ends with the all shoot-out. But it was nice to see Caviziel in a film role. He is good at being creepy. LOL

he probably made enough money off of his book to retire and f*ck his cats full time.
WV-Films writes:

It's actually just because there are just more male parts. There are 10 actresses to every actor, but those numbers are reversed when it comes to filling roles.

Funny how they just skipped over costume design and makeup in their analysis of the Women in Film numbers. I wonder why :)
TRUEMAN writes:
on January 15th, 2014 at 12:50:11 PM

easy answer, its because they are lack of creativity, all women movies are the same love cap story the sam sh*t ove and over!
shiteater writes:
on January 15th, 2014 at 3:34:49 PM

Personally I have little interest in watching a movie if it stars a female lead. Especially if it's an action movie. There are exceptions, but that's basically just how it is.

So if women want to complain, they only need to blame themselves for not being interesting as actors.
