"A Bronx Tale" Actor Lillo Brancato Released From Prison After 8 Years

"A Bronx Tale" Actor Lillo Brancato Released From Prison After 8 YearsSubmit Comment
Lillo Brancato, who is best known for his roles on "The Sopranos" and "A Bronx Tale," has been released from prison after spending eight years behind bars for a botched Bronx burglary that led to the murder of a police officer.

Brancato, who is now 37 years old, was sentenced to 10 years, but earned an earlier release by taking college courses and meeting disciplinary standards. He's on parole until the end of 2018.

In 2005, Brancato and small-time mobster Steven Armento were drinking at a strip club in the Bronx when they decided to break into a nearby apartment and steal Valium. The sound of shattering glass awoke an off-duty police officer, who lived in the neighborhood. He confronted Brancato and Armento, which resulted in a gun fight. Armento fired first and the officer suffered a fatal wound to the chest.

Armento was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Brancato was convicted of attempted burglary, but was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge.

Police union officials objected to Brancato's release, arguing he should have been convicted of murder. "This union will take any steps necessary to ensure that this miscreant follows the conditions of his parole down to the last letter," said the union in a statement. "The entire law enforcement community will be watching and the minute he steps out of line, we'll be sure that he is returned to prison to finish out the rest of his sentence."

This guy reminds me of Brad Renfro...

If anybody's seen APT PUPIL or THE CLIENT, you know the guy was on his way up, but the f*cking demons plus fame, plus the celebrity wrist slaps when they f*ck up...were just a deadly combination.

Brancato didn't kill the officer, Armento did. Armento pulled the trigger, and even though the *law* says Brancato is as guilty of murder as Armento, the jury disagreed, as would I UNLESS Brancato KNEW Armento had a gun with intent to use it. Doesn't make sense to throw on guy in prison because the other dude shot someone.

In fact, these equal accomplice laws were passed because a person could argue they had nothing to do with a murder committed during the commission of another crime, which, it was thought, would make would-be criminals think twice about breaking the law, which didn't happen.

The law should have tried to prove intent, like they do with the crime of burglary, but instead sought to fill ever increasing prisons with ever increasing criminals.

As for Brancato being talented, or waste of said talent, please. People repeat that crap because the dude played a thug, which is about as a stretch as me playing an internet *sshole.
