"Fast and Furious 7" Might Be Scrapped and Started From Scratch

Posted: December 4th, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Fast and Furious 7" Might Be Scrapped and Started From ScratchSubmit Comment
"Fast and Furious" has become the biggest franchise for Universal Pictures, which is why the seventh installment was set to hit theaters at record speeds. But now that Paul Walker has passed away half-way through production, the studio has some big decisions to make.

The Wrap has learned that producers are considering completely scrapping the $200 million film and starting over. Part of the reason is because some of Walker's most crucial scenes have yet to be shot.

Since the studio is insured for cases like this, the issue is not a financial one. There have been talks of using CGI to place Walker's face on another actor's body. There have also been discussions about starting from scratch, but using some of Walker's footage.

Either way, it's starting to look like "Fast and Furious 7" will not be ready to hit theaters on July 11th, 2014.

Meanwhile, Universal is donating part of the proceeds from the DVD/Blu-ray sales of "Fast and Furious 6" to Walker's Reach Out Worldwide charity.

I like the part where it says "to hit at record speed".

Quite obviously it will not be the same without him (Tokyo Drift was crap and easily forettable). Partial appearances with him would never work either for blattant reasons.

I doubt the next one will be as succesful as FaF6.

Perhaps but at the only difference Heath Ledger had died by the time the film came out. But if it reach the same success it will be based on the emotional factor.

i still haven't said it yet, but i'll say it now...RIP Paul Walker...you were a joy to watch in some films i've seen...to all the haters, hate on a different person for a change, there's worse people, worse actors/musicians to be bashed on
Tanman32123 writes:

The next one will be huge. As long as they keep the footage with him in it and use that in the film (They obviously will). A LOT of people will want to go see his last film as an actor driving up the already huge box office.

I doubt they'll completely start over, But they'll probably do massive rewrites. Do you guys think we'll ever see what was GOING to happen? Before his death?
BadChadB33 writes:

Massive rewrites with a CGI faced version of his face on another actors body with his character getting killed halfway thru is what they will do.
shafe41 writes:

No matter what people say about Walker, I believe he's the catalyst that holds these films together. He's the more human character out of any of them. Other than that, it's just another action movie with cars running around. I'll see the 7th movie regardless. But it just won't be the same without him.

@WV-Films
I for some reason am inclined to agree with recasting, not because I don't respect his character but because I do. His character is too significant to the story and to just kill him off might compromise the family theme of th story. The characters come and go but the main three actors are there throughout it all as was shown when they came back for Fast & Furious. Dead again, to play a character for 5 films and then recast is a double issue. There is respecting the character and actor. This isn't Harry Potter where when Richard Harris died it was established in the story ahead in a book that they had to recast. It's whatever will respect Walker the most. Maybe keeping his character alive considering his central role or finding a way to end his storyline on a way it won't feel they are destroying everything his character represents.
minkowski writes:

CGI man, CGI. This where they could save it and show the world how CGI characters are done. And not like Tron Legacy either. Get some uber-talented people to recreate the dude's face, patch it onto another person's body, close out his character by having him and his wife and kid retire somewhere in the world, and move on with the rest of the team.

Besides, just like Transformers, the real stars are the cars anyway.

Study Finds Most US Silent Films Have Been Lost

"The Library of Congress conducted the first comprehensive survey of silent films over the past two years and found 70 percent are believed to be lost. Of the nearly 11,000 silent feature films made in America between 1912 and 1930, the survey found only 14 percent still exist in their original format. About 11 percent of the films that survive only exist as foreign versions or on lower-quality formats."

Oh yeah, what's-her-name from the Fast and Furious movies... well, now she's part of TWO lucrative film franchises, so good for her, I guess

Alex used to delete whole chunks of comment sections. One time (around two years ago), on an article with a sh*tload (probably hundreds) of comments, I posted a reply to some guy with a Spider-man Lego avatar in which I corrected a minor mistake (about a movie's release year) that he had made in one of his comments. In response, he blasted me, said he thought I was being a bitch, blah blah blah (par for the course back then, as every other poster was a thin-skinned p*ssy in those good old days, but I digress). Anyway, I couldn't reply at the time because I had to go either to work or to class. So I returned to that same article in the evening to reply to my brand new friend, only to find that all but 20 or so comments had been erased from the article's comment section.

That's just one example off the top of my head, though, Alex used to do that kind of sh*t a lot back in the day
minkowski writes:

@skywalker: I've thought about. Doing news, reviewing movies and whatnot, but I'm not sure there's any demand for yet another movie news website, since there's a hundred of them out there and they all look alike. If I did, though, I'd treat my readers better than Alex (believe it or not).

I'm just waiting for WP to die. First Alex killed the forums, then he pulled back from interacting at all within the comment sections, then he rolled out a new and better-looking Latino version of WP (Peliblog), and now he's down to updating the site once a day with four or five articles.

GreenFreak- Yeah, I have to agree. Anytime I've seen Alex in the comment section, he isn't a jerk about other people. Seems like a decent guy. Except for the passive aggressive deletions and the occasional refusal to give credit for a news finds.

As for the updating- honestly, I'm glad he isn't updating the website 6 times a day. If he is the only person updating the website, you shouldn't live your life off of a movie site alone. I'll check this site once or twice every two days, but any more than that... it turns into an obsession. How much money is WP worth anyways? Now that I think about it, if this is his sole form of employment... that changes the pictures a little bit, doesn't it?

Hrm.

Mink- Yeah, the problem with all of these news sites is that they are all just copy cat clones of one another and don't present anything new to the users. A smart guy would come by and find a way to utilize your comment and redesign a site to step up the audience involvement of the site. But let's be honest, what else can you do with a movie website where we talk about movies?

The first person that opens a bar with the traditional movie going website atmosphere and serves draft beer will also have me buying a massive amount of stock in their company. Haha

They really f*cked up with Nolan's Batman films. I mean, yeah, a lot of dateless nerds worship them and Chris, and WB made a sh*tload of money, but...in the long run, it was largely wasted because it sacrificed years off of DC's game against Marvel and gave the latter huge momentum.

Now DC has to go forward pretending Nolan's films don't exist, which wouldn't have happened if Chris had kept more to the canon comic book narrative instead of doing his own thing (which arguably worked in perhaps one movie (TDK), according to the aforementioned nerds (I disagree)).

Yeah, Schumacher screwed the pooch, and yeah DC felt they needed to swing the pendulum in the other direction with Nolan, to go dark and "realistic" and gritty, but they f*cked up because you can't insert a character like that into a universe with Superman, Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman. So they got Batman at the expense of everyone else, and then they lamentably tried to shoehorn Superman into that mold, which largely failed to resonate with anyone.

Why didn't they foresee the direction Marvel was trending? Why were they adhering to what Sony was doing with Spiderman and what Fox was doing with the X-Men?

Didn't they have faith in their products and enough vision to see they could craft a larger cinematic universe, and such a universe would need cohesion among all the characters?

So long story short:

Schumacher f*cks Batman in the ass.

DC responds by taking Batman in the opposite direction with Nolan's dark, ugly, joyless vision.

DC then catches up to Raimi's already-dated Spiderman trilogy approach (and Fox's X-Men series) to comic book movies circa 2001.

They then totally miss what Marvel is doing, which is really a new thing in film, not just comic book movies.

Then they go "oh f*ck" and try to catch up by forcing a Superman-shaped block into a Nolan-Batman-shaped hole, while irrevocably closing Nolan's Batman universe for good.

Then they try to retroactively abort Nolan's trilogy so they can create their own Avengers-like film some time in the third decade of this century, by which time Marvel will be into their eighth X-Factor film.

Now they have a terrible British Superman, a laughable Israeli Wonder Woman who looks like she dines in Ethiopia, and Ben Affleck as Batman, which has no connection to Nolan's work.

Am I missing something?

@Tanman

It was Walker's decision to get into a vehicle that is notorious for being very sensitive and fast as f*ck. The fact that his friend was a professional race car driver is meaningless.

Professionals die all the time because they think that they know any better.

Because of all this, it is very difficult to have even the slightest modic*m of sympathy for these 2 stooges.

THEY made the decision to joyride in a potential death trap and now they are dead.

My guess is they will not do jack sh*t on the production of Fast 7 until Spring of next year at the earliest and with that will come a very different script that will make Lucas Black and Jason Statham the main characters.

This is how it should be anyways because now the timeline is caught up chronologically with Black's character and Han's death.

When Walker was still alive I was wondering why he needed to have much of a major part in Fast 7 to begin with.

Maybe now the film's story will reflect that and be less cluttered because the cast was sounding a tad excessive to me.

Yeah, Black could easily pick up the slack now that Walker has passed. Somebody has too..

The DVD is going to be great though.. Imagine all the extra never before seen footage that they'll add

"Because of all this, it is very difficult to have even the slightest modic*m of sympathy for these 2 stooges."

Exactly.

Not to toot my own horn, but when news broke I was shocked, but after about five minutes it occurred to me that Walker likely killed himself by driving one of his super-fast cars (he had a hangar full of them...17 to be exact) into a tree. Seems I was wrong. Some other mindless speedhead did it for him.

Those two immature, irresponsible, selfish bozos drove a car into a tree, and all because they had to drive a 450k car at least 45 miles over the posted speed limit, a car KNOWN for its extremely delicate touch (in part because the engine is located in the middle of the car).

Now... people are without their friend, their brother or father or husband or son, Universal may be out 200 mil, Georgia lost the chance to have the film lensed in Atlanta after increasing their film tax credits from 15% to 30%, and all of Walker's coworkers will now to have to set their careers back a bit as they basically rebuild the movie from scratch.

Ridiculous.

With great power comes great responsibility, and for all the power Walker possessed as an actor, the dumb, juvenile f*ck exercised ZERO responsibility.

Damned man-children.

@mink

Yeah and in Fast 6 there's the scene where Walker is talking to Vin Diesel about leaving the team because Jordana "Omnibrow" Brewster was pregnant.

Diesel says "If you decide to walk out those doors..." or something. So that's a perfect opportunity to excise Walker's character from the story anyways. They could even show the scene again in Fast 7 and the characters talk about his new baby and then cut to a scene with Brewster and a fake-ass looking puppet of Walker changing a sh*tty diaper then freeze-frame.

@Tanman

Yeah but seriously I think Walker will now not be in Fast 7 at all and his final scenes will be included on the Blu-Ray and the cast will talk about him.
minkowski writes:

Well, I think Universal is missing a blockbuster possibility if they cut Walker completely, because look what happened with Heath "Crybaby" Ledger.

Bam.

TDK blew the doors off the theaters. Too bad Tom Hardy didn't croak for TDKR or people would STILL be singing that film's praise.

Deaft0ne writes:

@mink

Yeah but for Fast 7, they were shooting for 3 months but that was primarily action and driving scenes. Very little dialogue scenes were shot.

Since Walker is dead, using a CGI head to finish his character's scenes would just seem distracting and ghoulish.

In Tron Legacy, which is still the only film made to have a virtual actor with Jeff Bridges as CLU 2.0. This is acceptable because Jeff Bridges is obviously still alive and it's established that CLU 2.0 is some sort of virtual being.

I watched The Crow earlier because it is an example of a film that was completed after the lead actor's death. The major difference however is that Brandon Lee had filmed about 80-85% of his scenes so he appears on camera in nearly the entire movie.

The only major aspect of the original production that had to be scrapped is a character Tom Noonan played in a Jack O'Lantern Mask where he was sort of a ferryman for the dead.

He had scenes he shot talking to Eric Draven but Brandon Lee never shot his scenes with Noonan because of Lee's death.

These scenes originally made the movie about 120 mins long instead of 100 and Noonan's parts are on YouTube.

So back on topic, Walker hardly completed the amount of footage Lee did so IMO it would be best to just not feature his character in Fast 7 at all.

@Deaftone: they can just rewrite the damned thing, use what footage they have as spare parts, and work from a fresh script that reflects that Walker's character either died or moved on with his wife and kid, or else they can recast him. I'd go with the second option, but they'll probably go with door number one.

As for the CGI, I said that because I had read the film was nearly complete, perhaps more than 80%, and that Walker only had a few more scenes to shoot. Now it's at 50% and many of Walker's integral scenes aren't even close to completion or, as Alex would say, "started". So the CGI option is out, ghoulish or not.
Deaft0ne writes:

@mink

That's the funny thing is that originally I didn't give a sh*t about these movies but from Fast 4 onwards they evolved into a sort of theatrical miniseries and now that it is caught up with Han's death and Statham's character killing him I want to know what's next and Walker's death does not need to interfere with that!

Lol.
minkowski writes:

@Deaftone: shouldn't be a problem. Not like Walker "interfered" with the last three movies.

Really, did anyone here even notice him?
Deaft0ne writes:

Correction:

Michael Berryman from The Hills Have Eyes played The Skull Cowboy in The Crow, not Tom Noonan.

@mink

Yeah he has already been a ghost in the last few movies anyways.
minkowski writes:

@Deatone: I had no idea regarding The Crow. I do recall Noonan in a few choice roles, like Last Action Hero and Manhunter, and Berryman I think was the freak on the cover of the movie you mentioned, which I watched ages ago, but I couldn't have said who did what without looking.

Mink I'm going to tell you same thing I told my brother when he brought up those facts.

"I hate when people say that, Obviously good people die everyday. And most would "Pray" for them All but we're only able to pray for the ones we know OR the names we know well. I doubt you'd 'pray' or even feel sorry for all the kids who die every year of starvation, do how can you judge the people who don't?

Like i said, we can really only "Pray" or mourn for the people we know or the people we've heard of Such as Paul Walker. We've all heard his name so it's sad when he dies. We don't know that random dude down the street so how are we supposed to Mourn once he passes."

Please don't take that, Turn it around and call me stupid because of it Mink, I really don't want to argue about all this stuff right now. It's just simply how I personally see it.

And I did feel bad for both the second I heard of the news, and I admittedly felt more bad for Walker. Cause he's a name I know. The other guy, Not many knew of, It's tragic, But that's just reality lol

DON'T HATE ME, I LOVE YOU

hmm well holy crap there's a lot of comments already...i know it's early for universal if they even see this one, granted i don't know how much was filmed...but i had an idea for them to leave his character alive in the movie and that dom would say something such as mia and brian couldn't miss their baby's first steps or words...seems people want to seem him in his last film and live at that, having him die in the movie is too harsh...the joker didn't die in the dark knight...just a thought
