George Miller Comments on Mel Gibson's Cameo in "Mad Max: Fury Road"

Posted: December 3rd, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
George Miller Comments on Mel GibsonSubmit Comment
During his first interview about "Mad Max: Fury Road," director George Miller spoke about whether Mel Gibson, who starred as the original Mad Max, will have a cameo in the new movie.

"It would have been nice somehow, but no, it's not true."

He went on to say that despite delays, "Mad Max: Fury Road" has been testing very well with audiences. "Our film, luckily after a ridiculous amount of work, is testing extremely well. We're very happy," he explained. "There has been a lot of doubt about it. [People saying] 'it took so long,' but Warners have delayed it until 2015 to go into the top weekend of the year (May 15th, 2015)."

When asked if Max's Interceptor will appear in the movie, Miller replied: "Without giving too much away, there is one that appears."

And so goes my last visage of interest for this film save, perhaps, only for the fact that Miller is directing. All it can do now is either surprise me or meet my low-expectations.

Err, I meant "vestige" not "visage".

Stupid me. I hate you, as in me.

If you're relying on feedback from test audiences, then your movie is going to suck ass, because you aren't an artist at that point, just a marketeer (if that's even a word) let's just call you "Studio c*ck Boy" and call it even.

Fury Road stuck in traffic unneccessarily for a year and a half

Warner Bros. delayed the movie due to a slew of letters from Canada begging for the film's postponement due to not having watched the original yet

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't Avengers 2 dominate the box office for most of May 2015

Definitely a crowded schedule that year for Mad Max, a film from a series that hasn't had an audience in many years.

It's going to get sandwiched between The Avengers 2 and Brad Bird and Damon Londelhof's Disney film Tomorrowland, along with Susan Cooper, which is a Paul Feig film led by Statham and McCarthy.

So...not good for them. Hardy isn't much of headliner, if at all, so no fan draw. He's more of ensemble actor, with room for character and method acting should he choose, but unless he takes on a big gig like Bond, I don't see him making much of a leading man name for himself, and not between now and 2015. So there goes name draw. Same goes for Charlize Theron.

Now, Avengers is going to dominate one week before, starting May 1st, which means as Mad Max comes in, there's going to be little air to share that second week. So, basically Mad Max has to make a ton of money in the cracks between Avengers 2, Feige's comedy, which will likely do well as both his and McCarthy's stars are still rising, and Tomorrowland.

Now, Here's what might happen. Susan Cooper, as it's titled now, may bomb, or it may be moved up or down; but assuming it appears the 22nd as currently slated, bombing is the only hope. Tomorrowland would also have to move up or down, or else bomb, to give Mad Max any room. If neither self-destructs, or if Susan Cooper alone sweeps up the free air as Avengers 2 dwindles down, Mad Max will have to make what it can in its opening week, and against STIFF second-helping competition from The Avengers 2.

I just don't see any of that happening. Tomorrowland may bomb, but Clooney has significant draw, and Paul Feig seems to get better as he goes and people are quite open to McCarthy's fat girl comedic stylings, so regardless, Mad Max, a film with no fan base, with no big-name headliner, with no real purpose and perhaps even off-season since no one is looking for the nuclear apocalypse and with most Americans hostile or indifferent to the wild and exaggerated threats from climate change, will have to fight to survive against the T-Rex in the room The Avengers 2 and a potential pack of galloping velociraptors in the form of Susan Cooper and perhaps even Tomorrowland.

Well...good luck!

What mink said.

TBH I think this would work much better as an August release because it may be up against The Expendabelles but not much other competition.
