Keith Richards to Return for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Christoph Waltz May Play Villain

Keith Richards to Return for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Christoph Waltz May Play VillainSubmit Comment
The Daily Mail has learned that Keith Richards is set to reprise his role as Captain Teague, who is Jack Sparrow's father, in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."

The site also revealed that the villain in the movie will be Captain Brand, a ghost who's after something called The Trident, which will be used to get revenge on Jack (Johnny Depp). Apparently Brand feels that Jack is responsible for turning his brother into a pirate.

According to Bleeding Cool, Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) is in talks to play Brand. Another character involved with the movie is the daughter of Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush). Her name is Carina Smyth and it's rumored that she's a witch, but is really just a skilled astronomer. She is also Jack's love interest. Rebecca Hall is considered for the role.

Damn, if Waltz is involved I might have to watch it now. Christoph Waltz needs to be in every f*cking movie, he's a great actor.

This sounds about a thousand times more interesting than the cop-out story line of the fountain of youth. Strangely what seems to work for this series is a convoluted story. I never say that but this series is pretty much for ridiculous stories. The first three were fun to watch and I actually enjoyed At World's End but they need to bring back Bloom and Knightley because they helped diverge the focus from Depp who is good in small doses as Jack Sparrow but when he is all you focus on for two and a half hours it becomes redundant. It's like family Guy in it's prime. It spaced out it's humor as Sparrow is the humor of the story.

Waltz may be able to save this pile of garbage -not half as good as Lone Ranger !!

@BJsforeveryone
Ironic since the guy who directed Lone Ranger was the guy who did the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. LOL

Jerry Bruckheimer is "just" a producer like Rae Sanchini was EP on Titanic even though that film is still Cameron's.

@mink
Bruckheimer is f*cking ridiculous! He was part of the reason Prince of Persia was as poor as it was since he kicked the director out of the editing room and made the film his way. As a producer he is great because he gets projects off the ground but my God he lacks any creative prowess. Course it's basically because of him that Michael Bay got a career when he funded Bad Boys. Still deciding if that was a bad thing since he made a couple movies with Bay that were fun to watch.
minkowski writes:

@sleuth: Bruckheimer is the studio's avatar, their on-site liaison to the director and crew, and as such I agree he has paved the way for other people to do some good work, but he's also gone down with the ship like a good captain, such as on PoP.

I guess my point is, Bruckheimer is just the purse and reins. He has no real creative input, unlike the director, and in the case of PoP, that was entirely the fault of the story and the casting of Jake Gyllenhaal as a Persian. That and the material was just wasn't on-season that year, which was back when comic book movies were super-hot fare.

Of course, he's known for his exorbitant production budgets but I think that's because he's a greedy f*ck looking to maximize his ROI, and he thinks throwing more money at a movie is the best way to do that, just like some liberals think throwing more money at failing schools is a way to raise test scores.

@mink
I don't think the story was bad, but the action was edited to be a stereotypical action romp. While there were some good action scenes, the story just didn't flow at all and again that is editing to me. Like the elements were right, even Alfred Molina's strange ostrich racing section, but the way it was put together was awful and I know that Bruckheimer was part of that.
minkowski writes:

@Sleuth: the editing didn't bother me, but the idiotic story of some white guy playing a Persian with some no-name actress as the princess, and a villain that wasn't memorable, really hurt the film's already limited enjoyability.
minkowski writes:

Jesus....Ben Kingsley was in this one? lol. Didn't even remember him being in it. Guess that was extent of both his performance and the production's idea of authenticity.

Sleuth1989 writes:

Whatever. It was a video game adaptation so my expectations were low. LOL
Sleuth1989 writes:

@mink
I enjoyed it very much as a fun action movie and that lead actress, Gemma Arterton, was fine in her part although I wish that Disney hadn't done it and we could have gotten a little better there. And I don't even care that a majority of the actors are British and American. They did a fine job and for a video game adaptation it was way above average. As an overall film no but as a movie based off a game it was pretty decent.
minkowski writes:

Yeah, but the bar for video game movie adaptations is soooooo low...

LOL Exactly. So compared to others...this film was Oscar worthy! Okay...that's not saying much but you know what I mean.

@BJsforeveryone Pile of garbage? Wow, so you wrote it off before it even started production! I don't remember Waltz saving the garbages he starred in like The Three Musketeers and The Green Hornet.
KillerCOck writes:

There is nothing in Prince of Persia that is meant to suggest that Jake's character is Persian in the film. Nothing.
minkowski writes:

^^Exactly, which is hilarious because the title is his namesake, specifically The Prince of Persia. lol.
