Vin Diesel Hints Ang Lee May Direct Him in "Kojak" Movie

Vin Diesel Hints Ang Lee May Direct Him in "Kojak" MovieSubmit Comment
About a year ago, Universal Pictures announced that it's moving forward with a "Kojak" movie, based on a 1970s television series and cast Vin Diesel to play the lead role.

Diesel has now updated his Facebook page with news that the studio may have found a director for the film. "Kojak... New York... Ang Lee..." the actor wrote. While that's far from a confirmation, it looks like there are at least talks with the "Life of Pi" helmer.

"Kojak" TV series, which ran from 1973 to 1978, focused on a tough-talking New York cop, played by Telly Savalas. The script is written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Skyfall, Casino Royale).

In this movie it won't be a lollipop; it'll be Gina Carano's d*ck.

Ang Lee, the man who brought the world its worst high-budget comic book movie and a film about a stranded, starving CGI tiger on a little boat with a boy who smells like sardines, will helm the man who sounds like Dr. Claw in an adaptation of everyone's least favorite bald *sshole.

Coming soon!

It's actually disturbing that Telly Savalas is less ugly than Vin Diesel...

I get it, it's because he's bald like Telly Savalas. Why not, they took Sam Jackson and cast him as Shaft based on nothing more than being black and saying motherf*cker a lot.

What's next, a Columbo adaptation starring Paul Giamatti?

Actually that sounds more watchable than this sh*t.

Sam reeks of blaxploitation.

Paul Giamatti would actually make a decent Columbo.

Paul Giamatti would actually make it to the AC/DC concert if his flight wasn't delayed.

Bet the whole success of this movie will rely on the plot but not on the dialogue...

What does Diesel usually say in his movies? Not much. The Kojak gig will be like what? Like a page and a half in all on dialogue?

Look at his F&F, Pitch Black/Ridd*ck, or XXX...the audience has to know what's going on in the plot just to know what Diesel will be thinking...just more of the same. Meh.

Plus they'll change the character...put more style, less substance...you know, Kojak will be another bastard child of Hollywood. I don't expect much. Maybe the only thing in common will be the name and lollipop...that's it.

I'd be more interested in bring back Shaft with Idris Alba in the role. Forget Bond, sooner or later the character usually parodies itself...it happened with Moore, Bronson etc. Shaft could be more. Grittier, many shades of gray...the character that can handle himself on the street and dresses the part when dealing with crooked politicians/ business associates...like a James Bond of the streets, but more versatile and interesting, IMO. A real antihero of a character. Sam Jackson was a good start how he looked the part as badass and didn't do much kicking ass...more shoot outs (Shaft is usually not a young guy), but the movie f*cked it up with that lame, simplistic Seagal's Out for Justice plot (dragged finding just one guy). I liked Jackson's Shaft ending with helping others though.

I just think Kojak is good, but has to follow the cop rules as a detective. Shaft should have no rules... a real wildcard of a character.

Plus, either way with Kojak/Shaft, I think that's what the American people need right now(or people in general)...see somebody on screen being a hard fighter on the injustices, yet still be able to help the troubled youths/ helpless victims.
