"Mad Max: Fury Road" and "The Purge 2" Get Release DatesSubmit Comment
Warner Bros just announced that George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, will hit conventional and 3D theaters on May 15th, 2015, joining an already crowded year for movies. It will be released just two weeks after "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and one week before Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland."

Meanwhile, Universal Pictures has scheduled "The Purge 2" to be released on June 20th, 2014, giving itself very little time to work on the film. Very little is known about the sequel, which has yet to begin casting.

The original thriller cost only $3 million, but grossed about $90 million worldwide. The sequel is rumored to have a budget of $10 million.

Why is mad max taking so long? Are they shooting it over from scratch?

If I recall, they had serious weather issues in Namibia, or where ever the hell they were shooting, that set them back for quite a while.

Why the hell did they not use Australia's outback? Because the Australian government wouldn't give them a nice tax break?

@mink. I heard it was because mel gibson still has a house there and would consistently show up on set in his old max get up trying to get in the shots.

And when forcibly removed you could hear him screaming obcenities(sp) and blaming the jews.

On a serious not however I believe the tax breaks were just BETTER elseware and Australia didnt budge on the offer.

Mad Max is going to make next to no money sandwiching itself just two weeks after Avengers 2. If its anything like Avengers 1, AoU is going to dominate box offices for at least a month.
