"It's a Wonderful Life" Sequel Unveils First Details

Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions teamed up to develop a sequel to the classic 1946 film "It's a Wonderful Life," which starred Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, and was nominated for five Oscars.

The sequel, called "It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story," will bring back Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey's daughter Zuzu in the original. This time, she'll be an angel who shows Bailey's unlikable grandson (also named George Bailey) how much better off the world would have been had he never been born.

"The storyline of the new film retains the spirit of the original every life is important as long as you have friends," said Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton, who collaborated on the screenplay.

The plan is to officially begin casting in February in order to have the film in theaters by 2015. The budget is between $25 and $35 million. Producers are in talks with Jimmy Hawkins and Janie Bailey to also reprise their roles as Tommy and Janie Bailey.

Great. A timeless, inspirational classic whored out for a classless, dark, cynical sequel.

New low, Hollywood. New low.

I can't wait to see Jimmy Stewart on the big screen again!!

*even if it's just a throwaway shot of his grandson looking longingly at a stock PR photo on his dresser.

Damned shame they tore down Stewart's home back in 1998 just to build some tacky monstrosity.

Californians have no grace.

Blasphemy

This makes me sad... I thought that film was untouchable, I mean it's lasted this long! *sigh* What fascinates me most of all these sequels, prequels and remakes is that there is SO MUCH out there in original stories that Hollywood won't touch. Why? Because it's a "risk"!?

Hopefully the movie producers will begin to look at cable programming and see that bigger risks bring back bigger rewards.

every life is important as long as you have friends...so people with no friends should just kill themselves.

Is nothing f*cking sacred?!!

They should boycott this sh*t...or at least have the decency to put it where no one will see it, like you know, the Hallmark Channel.

Does anybody remember they actually made a sequel to A Christmas Story with Daniel Stern as the father?.....exactly.

I like how each generation has kinda their popular go-to Christmas movie...

Back in the day it was great with It's a Wonderful Life AND Miracle on 34th St...

In my day, my favorite movie growing up was A Christmas Story...many identified with the dysfunction of family with the holiday and what it brings. I know it's in a different time periods, but somehow it connected.

For some, The Grinch is also really popular for the Dr. Seus's live action, over the top costumes/ plot where Jim Carrey's over acting really does make the character pop.

Nowadays it's Elf...it's funny how Favreau got a lame schmaltzy plot and made it fresh with an upcoming Will Ferrell's commitment to the character.

Anyways, all I know is this lame money grab probably won't be one of those classics...

Kiss my behind! This is the greatest Christmas film ever made and you want to ruin it with a crappy sequel? Just re-release it in the theater. Simple as that.

I watch this film every year with my wife and I laugh and cry each time. James Stewart and Donna Reed are just fantastic.
