Sony Pictures Classics recently announced that it's planning to release "The Raid 2: Berandal" in US theaters. And today, we have the first international trailer for the sequel. Check it out below.

Plot: Picking up right where the first film ends, "The Raid 2"′ follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

The new movie is once again directed by Gareth Evans, who said that he envisions "The Raid" as a trilogy. For now "The Raid 2" will be released sometime in 2014.

I don't mind subtitles at all on foreign films, but reading actually distracts me from enjoying the intense action in films like The Raid, which is why I hope at some point someone smart does a good American remake.

There is a copy online with voice overs, done pretty well too.

I wonder if the words "Andy Dufresne was here" are inscribed somewhere along that dude's prison cell walls.

@Dirt: didn't know that. Thanks.

I have the first one on DVD and have watched it many times because it is very fun to watch. No problem with a sequel.

Hollywood take note - this is how you make an action film today.

Nooo, how can you remake the action in these films I don't even remember much dialogue after the first 10 minutes anyway. A hollywood remake would just be redundant.

Looks pretty good. Finally a good trailer.

@Mink Can't we get this guy to bully Alex around for deleting some of your "direct to fan" posts?

If you liked this, watch "Merantau" another of Iko Uwais' films. Some of the same production/direction people. Equally good watch.

I dont think Mink is off base with an American remake. If a studio was prepared for two things, a small budget and slower profit returns. The budget for "The Raid" couldnt have been too big, Wiki says 1.1 million. Do it here for 5 million and let the cult status begin. Rate it R or dont even bother.

Mink,

They ARE doing a remake according to Wiki. Finalized in 2011 and using the producers, directors, and choreographers for the Indonesian version. You are a powerful psychic!
