"Saw 8" is Being Developed, New Direction Planned

"Saw 8" is Being Developed, New Direction PlannedSubmit Comment
Since the "Saw" franchise, director James Wan has created several more horror franchises. But Lionsgate isn't giving up on "Saw." According to Bloody-Disgusting, the studio is now in active development on the eighth installment.

The last time a new "Saw" film was in theaters was back in 2010 with "Saw 3D," which grossed $136 million on a budget of $20 million. That was on par with expectations. Clearly there's still money to be made from the franchise.

Lionsgate isn't rushing to make "Saw 8." In fact, the studio is taking its time to come up with a new direction for the franchise in hopes of taking Halloween back from "Paranormal Activity."

The 1st one was a solid good B movie and quite original but everything else after that was just sh*t.

You can't be serious lol.. I watched em all, They're alright i guess.. but seriously.. An eighth? Not needed. Come up with something original.

I actually agree with Bullitt.

The first Saw film isn't top-tier material as it was made with a small budget and began as a short-film demo from Wan, but it does do what it should, which is trick out the audience and give people more than the concatenation of gory sequences the other films gave, and Cary Elway does step outside his typecasting as the good-looking romantic interest.

Anyway, I stopped watching the Saw series halfway through Saw 3, which was nothing more than a series of blood and guts set pieces-stitched together with minimal exposition and virtually no plot development.

watched the first and second, saw some of the 3rd in pieces and not literally of course...let me take over, i'll give it a new direction and call it something else entirely, and give it a new name as well...problem solved

^ oops said two of the same sentence differently, that last part was supposed to be a new story not new name

The first 3 films form a tolerable trilogy but from 4 onwards they just kept getting worse. Hoffman was just a very dull antagonist after Jigsaw died in the 3rd one.

I like Costas Mandylor in other things he's been in but not Saw at all.

Slightly off-topic but tangentially related...I love that scene in Wan's Death Sentence wherein shots of Bacon shaving his head is repeatedly inter-cut with shots of him learning his new-found weapons, all of which is cohesively joined by Charlie Clouser's Kill Mode track.
