"Star Wars: Episode VII" Fires Writer Michael Arndt, Hires JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan

"Star Wars: Episode VII" Fires Writer Michael Arndt, Hires JJ Abrams and Lawrence KasdanSubmit Comment
When Disney first announced that it was developing "Star Wars: Episode VII," Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) was on board to write the script. The studio has now revealed that Arndt is no longer attached to the project. Instead, Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back) and "Star Wars: Episode VII" director JJ Abrams will work on the screenplay.

"I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and JJ working on the script," said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a 'Star Wars' story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen."

She continued: "JJ of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production."

The announcement went on to say that location scouting, production design, casting and costume design are already underway. The plan is to begin filming in spring of 2014 and then release the film in 2015.

I have not seen the term "fired" anywhere, except here at WP, where headlines are prone to hyperbole Geez...
If you look at Kathleen Kennedy's statement, she's pleases with what Arndt has done so far

Anyways, this news is only concerning in that it may push back the release date, if Abrams and Kasdan are doing a complete overhaul of the script, or are rather just tweaking some things that weren't working in Arndt's version. I hope not. A lot of promotional material with licensees has leaked a "Spring/Summer 2015" release, so I know Disney wants this thing out in cinemas then. Still, I'd rather have a great script, release date be damned.

Very good news for all SW-fans...Lawrence and JJ seems like the right dudes for the gig - and who gives a f*ck about Toy Story anyway (or other animated kid flicks for that matter)

I don't like this rush job of a movie.

Actually sounds like decent news. Was never a fan of Arndt anyway. Abrams should bring the sci-fi elements, and Kasdan will bring the adventure elements. Sounds about right. Kasdan should at least have it takes to make Star Wars 7 the proper three-act "man goes on a journey" story it should be since he mastered that aspect of traditional drama decades ago.

Hollywood replaces writers all the time. At this time it feels like a worthy upgrade.

I'm with Mink. For some reason, Arndt never gave me the scifi fantasy vibe at all. Sure he can write quirky characters, but I thought we were trying to avoid those this time around.

*cough* Jarjar *cough*

I'm a part of the one percent of people that absolutely did not like anything about Toy Story 3 at all.

They didn't fire Arndt. This is what happens on every big studio film. They will have someone start the script and then other people take it over to finish it. Abrams and Kasdan know what they want and, like in all cases, it's just easier for them to add the finishing touches/changes themselves instead of having Arndt do it.

f*ck, Alex. Stop being this sh*tty at your job.

HuffPo has a very different take, and I'll quote a quote from that source:

"According to the website Badass Digest, Abrams and Kasdan will completely rework Arndt's script from square one. "This isn't a rewrite, this is a completely different movie with different main characters," wrote the site's editor, Devin Faraci, citing sources with knowledge of the situation."

So...he was let go, and they're rewriting his script from square one so much that it's a entirely new movie...sounds like he was fired, unless he decided to just leave one of the biggest film projects in many years, not to mention working himself right out of perhaps any future jobs with Disney, which would be one of those career killers we all hear about now and then.

But hey, don't take it from me. I'm just the worthless troll who knows nothing about anything. lol.

doesn't sound like he was fired to me...

Funny Alex omitted the more important news, at least to me: Dan Mindel, the director of photography on Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness and Mission Impossible III, will serve as DP on Star Wars 7.

You know what that means, ladies and gentlemen of the jury!

Bawahahahahahaha!

This is ok. I wouldn't mind seeing what Lindelof would do with the story though. Lost was crap, but I think the guy showed some talent with Prometheus and Into Darkness.

Fired? Alex you're ridiculous.

At least with Arndt gone we won't have 3 full hours of jew propaganda.

Excellent news IMO.

Why is it so difficult to write this film? It shouldn't be, actually it is pretty easy.

Han and Leia married inn the films backstory. Han is dead, and Leia is cleaning their home and discovers 3Cpo inn the garage. 3cpo has been deactivated since episode 6 after Han got fedd up with the goldenboys irritating behavior.

3CPO turns mad, and kills Leia. Luke turns to the dark side cause of this inn anger and desperation. 3CPO finds Darth Vaders grave, and resurrect him, which is a neat trick sins Darth got burned. But the cool thing is that 3CPO was build by Anniken, and this plays a role how 3CPO manage to resurrect him.

This will trigger a chain reaction which will lead to the raise of Emperor Dwayne.

He will try to create a new death star. Luke bends over for the new lord, and pretty much takes it up the as. They will find out that George Lucas was full of sh*t, and that Leia was not the sister of Luke, only half sister. Their mother was Amidala, but she had f*cked another guy to, and the twins had different fathers. (That is actually possible believe it or not) Emperor Dwayne is her real father. Darth Vader, inn the shape of 3CPO call upon the children of Han And Leia to help him take down the new Emperor. Cue episode VIII.

Easy
