First Look: Eddie Redmayne is Stephen Hawking in "Theory of Everything"Submit Comment
Eddie Redmayne, who recently starred in "Les Miserables" and "My Week with Marilyn," is now filming his "Theory of Everything" movie in which he plays famous physicist Stephen Hawking. And today, we have the first photos from the set of the film.

"Theory of Everything" takes a look at the relationship between Hawking and his wife, Jane. The two met while they were both students in Cambridge in the 1960s, just as he was beginning to suffer the early effects of the motor neuron disease, which would eventually leave him almost entirely paralyzed.

The role of Jane is played by Felicity Jones. The rest of the cast includes Emily Watson, Maxine Peake and David Thewlis. The film is directed by James Marsh (Project Nim, Man on Wire). It has yet to get a release date.

Smart casting, at least in terms of phsyical description. Redmayne is a dead ringer. I just hope they do justice to Hawkings. The guy truly is an extraordinary human specimen, for his mind alone.

Errol Morris' A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME is a great film about Hawking.

Wonder if they'll also cover his infidelity and 2 divorces...

Hope it's not like that Captain Jack movie blowing smoke up our asses of how a saint he was...a wart-and-all biography is best of how a man with faults & virtues, just like everybody else, (PLUS a crippling disease) still had the intellect to open the our human minds to these huge discoveries...

People want angelic, pure protagonists with a happy ending on a biography when the truth is much more complex with its gray areas, vulnerability and not having a nice finale that ties all the loose ends...

If down right, this film could also be a career maker for Redmayne...

Sounds great, I'd love to see A movie based off the life of one of the worlds most genius men.

People respect the man's genius without understanding what it is he has done (besides that children's book on black holes and what not).

Agree with Cannon, this is a good casting choice. I hope they're honest with the story, too, the guy left his wife and kids after 25 years of marriage for a nurse... and this was AFTER he was mostly paralyzed. Nobody's perfect.

What fascinates me is- how in the f*ck is Hawking still alive? If my understanding is correct, nost people with Lou Gherig's die within 5-10 years of diagnosis, and he's been chugging along for well north of 30 years with the disease. I can't begin to imagine in medical efforts that've been put forth to keep him alive...
